I beg to disagree about the camera. In own experience the camera of the z series are better im some areas in my experience. I currently have a z2 and I get better pictures than my friends iphone 6 or s6. This is especially true in low-light. True indeed that these phones have OIS but in the real world, higher iso is much better.

Who thinks that the Z6 will be the first Xperia to have Optical Image Stabilisation? Also, would this include the front facing camera? Also, what about Optical Zoom?

^ Since OEM's are going for even thinner devices optical zoom is nothing we're going to see in the near future except some niche devices like from Asus or Panasonic. I hope that a couple of pure-view guys are left at Nokia who can deliver an awesome 1020 successor running Android or maybe Sony suddenly decides to join the RX100 with a Xperia smartphone..... |

A Z6 Compact would be thick enough. Maybe to squeeze Xenon flash into too. Imagine that!

Update:Look like F31XX,F32XX and F51XX are three different phones, whether the picture is C6 or not I have no idea.

You finally see my reasons for my harsh criticisms of Sony. Although the Z5 Premium is a great step in the right direction, the devices before it, IMO, greatly fell behind and didn't inspire customers.
Sony are always close but not close enough. I truly hope the Z6 Premium/Plus rips apart the competition, Sony have the potential but never truly exploit it.
Samsung was overall better then sony in overall consistent quality end result in all features of their s and note line, generally speaking. Anyone who says different is biased or blind. I say it as a sony fan. It is what it is. I did not like samsung previous attempts because of their cheap design, software bloat and the oled panels were still evolving. Now samsung fixed all of these and outdone themselves with s6 and note 5. Sonymobile will always trail behind competition if they continue in their current looser's way. Their mobile division seem like "dead man walking" as far as the end result is concerned. I see no meaningful change with Z5's. "I hope that z1" "i hope that z2" i hope that z3",etc. sounds familiar. I hope for sony but i will not support current sonymobile attempts with my money. |

Sony are always close but not enough................can you please more explain than becouse you make a claim nothing more.
Second, samsung make the worst phones, design ,material they use and their screen are so inacurate colors, no stereo speakers, oversharping (software) phothos they have and they use their own crappy CPU copied in the past .
Samsung are also very sneaky, paid reviewers, retailers or providers to sell more of their products.
people going to see that, if i ask a phone they always said Samsung not Iphone, not HTC not Sony only Samsung is their first replay.........................just sick and people fall for this sick trick of samsung.
And this is a sony thread, get lost with your promoting crapsung post................for god sake.

I've been to many phone shops that recommend Huawei and Sony devices, so that point of yours invalid.
Yes they tend to be close but not enough, e.g. The Snapdragn 810 in the Z5 series ruins it, as well as the Z5P not having 4GB RAM.
Just say you hate Samsung rather than talk rubbish, I mean crap CPU? You and me both know that's certainly not true and quit using the Lords name in vane. You are very immature, if you are not prepared to have a grown up conversation, don't bother responding to my posts.
Cheers.

This is so unfortunate yet true, as year after year we say "I hope the Zx finally has or does XYZ". It's my main irritation really. At the same time, I was not happy with Sansung in 2015, the S6 has crap battery life and the Note5's lack of MicroSD really pissed me off, but the S7 rumors point towards both those let downs being solved. Sony really should have taken advantage of Samsung's colossal mistakes in 2015.

Blah blah and bla........................you are funny
"Samsung was overall better then sony in overall consistent quality end result in all features of their s and note line, generally speaking"
What overal better? you make claims but give us no single details .
Samsung paid reviewers, providers and retalailers, to promote them if you call that better......................no it's not better but buyout.
What useless features you mention about it, like heart rate blah blah or non tested software or hardware?
Can we now quite promote crapsung in Sony thread please?

Which phone offers optical zoom, how well did it sell and what would be the point?
Optical image stabilisation, I can get behind that. Optical zoom is fundamentally pointless given the size constraints.
At the telephoto end, the camera will be garbage. I guarantee it.

Sony can't just "capitalise on the mistakes of Samsung". That's not how this works. R&D, despite what you might say or believe, takes time. It takes time to get it from the sketchbook to prototype. Then it takes time to sort out supply chain. Then it takes time to sort out QA/QC. Then it takes time to manufacture and ship. And Sony doesn't have the same financial clout that the likes of Apple has to just bully manufacturers into meeting their demands.
Its not that simple.
Lets not forget also, that Qualcomm f**ked all its customer by releasing a garbage chipset, with little alternatives at the high end. Unless Sony produce their own silicon, which they won't because it won't be worth it in terms of the volume they'll sell, then they are the mercy of what Qualcomm produces - no other SoC fabricator/designer competes with them right now. |

In this day and age there is more than 1 way to take advantage of a competitor's flaws. Sony could have created a Promo and PR campaign with their marketing agencies, they had the hardware already that was missing in the Samsungs i.e. MicroSD cards, Waterproofing etc.... you don't have to blow resources, just create an efficient campaign, take what you already have over your competitor and make it shine.
The Z5 series get promoted a lot, but the messaging is muddled and not really memorable.
