can't wait for Sony's announcement next week. Looks like XZ will be the replacement for the aging Z1. Metal at the back will be preferred since I'm using magnetic car holder.

I really hope there is a true groundbreaking USP and a very fast release schedule.
From memory, the last time Sony had a long period of seemingly uninteresting releases was between Arc and Z. I remember the perception of Z was that it was Sony finally stepping up to the plate with a leading device (don't remember if there was a world first USP though).
The time before that was the emptiness leading up to the X5, X10 and variants.
Looking at the tailing off from Z3 to Z3+ to Z5 and the completely uninteresting current X series(sales numbers, tech blog reviews and innovation level back me up in calling it a tailing off), could we be seeing another hero device (a la X10, Z)?
Looking forward to seeing what happens in a few days.

So this is aluminium metal like iPhone ? It's not magnetic then. I don't want to attach the metal plate at the back of the phone. Arghhh.

most likely will be aluminum if the harsh google translation is on the right track. and yes, aluminum is not magnetic. perhaps you could get a case and attach the magnetic disc to the case?
i use a snap/grip type holder so no worries here except for whether the phone will fit or not, which we'll have to wait and see. If there is going to be an "ultra" sized phone .. i'd be interested in that if the specs are the same or better. I've always wanted a big screen phone but the specs haven't been good enough to warrant it. with nougat's multi-window feature, it will make having a big screen all the better.

Really hope the new compact has the SD820 rather than the SD650, 3gb of RAM will make the phone fly especially if they keep the resolution @ 720p

Have no idea what kind of metal they will use if any... but usually they use Aluminium because it is light, cheap and spreads the heat very well ...
But there are also some negative sides..the reception suffers and as you can see it is not magnetic and soft metal gets scratches very easily |

The magnetic car holder comes with metal disc that can placed inside the case but, I don't like casing for my phone. I never use one. The only protection I have on my phone is the tempered screen protector. I like my phone naked....

I don't even have that. my phone is simply out of box the way it is with nothing added on

Ditto.
I just find it odd that they went with a different name for the compact (instead of XZ compact). The name rather suggests that it belongs to the X and not to the XZ or even X Performance family, but I still hope it uses the same platform as the XZ. We're used to unconventional names with Sony.
IFA is basically the home of the compact and as well as its 2H big brother, so I can't imagine that (if this isn't the real flagship compact) there will be a X Performance Compact or XZ Compact in the following months. We just have to hope that they remember why the compact is successful and why they went with the compact branding and not mini.

What about those specs are "too good to be true"? It's exactly what was rumored for a while now.
Compact gets a resolution bump to 1080p along with 1GB more ram (3GB right now).
Z3 Compact had a battery capacity of 2,600mAh and this compact is rumored to have 100mAh more (2700mAh).
It's average specs in a smaller body. Nothing stunning about it. HTC released the One M7 with a 4.7" 1080p display and 2300mAh 3 years ago. So what's makes this new Xperia so unbelievable?
OIS ,4GB RAM, 128GB storage and a 3000mAh battery would have made the specs to good to be true. |

At that screen size (4.6") 720p is more than enough personally and it's only going to help with prolonging the battery life too. No other phone within Android comes close to Sony's compact range, top spec in phone only marginally bigger that the iphone SE. Hope Sony nail it with the X Compact and give every other sub 5" phones and absolute hammering in the spec department.
I'd be over the moon if the X Compact has this spec
4.6" 720p IPS-NEO display
SD820 CPU
3gb of RAM
Stereo speakers
IP68 rating
32gb storage +SD card slot (64gb would be amazing)
Side mounted fingerprint scanner
23mp OIS rear cam with laser focus and dual LED flash
13mp OIS selfie cam with auto focus
2700 mAh battery
S-Master digital amp
Less than 65mm wide
I'm so happy 'cause today I've found my friends ... They're in my head
