Xperia XR?
The naming convention at Sony seems to confuse everyone, wasnt there a ZR which was a less inferior version of the Z? Now the XR will be more inferior than the X? Weird......
XR will not be inferior to X, will have almost the exact same if not the exact same specs as X performance.
SD820, 3 maybe 4 gigs of ram, prob 32 gigs of internal space, same camera, usb type C, and from the photos, dual tone flash.
This is a phone the Xperia X Performance should have been.
From what we have seen earlier, this will also have 4K recording.
Now if this thing has 4K video recording with HDR, then I don't need to look elsewhere.
With a TV supporting HDR, I would love making my own 4K HDR content.

IIRC there were some rumblings of PSVR integration with an Xperia some months ago... not much else since then though. |

I would be as excited as you if only all the previous xperia had better results in hdr. Xperia hdr mode never make sense to me, they look almost the same as regular shots beside forcing the iso to lock at a very high level. |

Well well well....the X Performance matches the S7 in DXO as I predicted a while back. Some will say its well deserved while some will rubbish the credibility of the site. Xperia also made a small profit after a string of losses so despite what people say about their phones, pricing and strategy; its working. Baby steps but still positive.
I was told that the 'Compact' SHOULD at the very least match the current X Performance but that makes me worry about the price. They are going the Z5 family route of APPROXIMATE screen sizes (compact, regular and premium), no mention of a high end ultra sized device but its not an impossibility, its more about whether they would make money off it or would it only be Z Ultra buyers getting them but again, they are only a small community. The sales of the current Ultra devices suggest that it wouldn't be fruitful. Tablet market has declined massively so not sure if they want to continue although he says knocking out a tablet is quick and easy because there is more space to play with. He did remind me that Xperia tablets are top notch in terms of quality and I agree.
Speaking about the recent leaks he told me that camera heating is a problem and it MAY account for the big forehead plus you have to consider that the front facing camera is in close proximity. He says that its something that makes them put the camera in the corner as opposed to others who can put their rear sensors lower or near the middle because it would force them to making the phone rather thick. He also said that they are thinking about fingerprint sensor position. Having it on the side is the best and most natural position, it also works well there but it adds thickness and the edge has to be slightly squared. He spoke about moving it down but that is far more uncomfortable and you need to re-engineer for the weight distribution so that the device doesn't feel top heavy or as if it could fall.
He says that they are aware that people want tiny bezels but also made the point that screen to body ratio percentages usually equate to a millimetre or less. He said something that I thought was very admirable, he said that its easy to imitate a competitor and make bezel-less devices that are ultra thin and cram all the technology in there but you will lose the quality. Materials are thinner, it looks cheaper and feels cheap which is not in their philosophy. Even the low end devices are designed to look good and make you feel that they aren't purchased as a stopgap. He said forget about the price and just experience it, take a close look at their products and appreciate why they haven't simply followed the designs of others. |

I agree with what the guy said. It may not always be the case, but it's why I became a Sony fan to begin with. The Sony experience is always unique and while it doesn't always deliver the impact and positive experience that was intended, in my opinion, it usually does. Sure, they've made many mistakes, but so have many companies with their products. Yes, their prices are high, but the Sony experience, if done well, is priceless.
My hope for IFA is a phone that fits nicely in the hand. 5-5.2" screen would be ideal but if they release an Ultra, I'd want it to be 6.4 just because if it's going to be too big to fit in my hand, it might as well be a huge stinkin screen to be worth it. I've always been curious about the ultra phones, but they never offered all the features I wanted, which were all in the 5" model. Not sure why they do that. I think Sony should definitely release an Ultra. While tablet sales overall have decreased, the "plus"-sized phones are certainly trending. The galaxy Note is very popular because it's powerful and packed full of all the features the regular galaxy has and then some. The iphone 6+ is also very popular. If sony can deliver an Ultra with all the features of the 5" model AND add features unique to the ultra (stylus input, for example), it would sell like hot cakes! I know I would buy one. So, if it's true that it'd be "easy" for them to knock out a phablet, it's not so easy to knock one out that can compete with the note and iphone+ models, but I think sony definitely can do it. They simply cannot pull any punches. That doesn't mean match all the specs on paper, it means completely defeating them in all aspects of performance and quality.

That's a big drop and if they're struggling in Europe that needs to change. Survival mode at the moment. Lets hope they can turn things around next year.

Sales maybe down but they didn't make a loss so the strategy is working just slower than expected. See what kind of reception the new devices get once IFA is done and who knows there maybe a profit for the financial year.
I'm so happy 'cause today I've found my friends ... They're in my head
