Come on jack00.... It is the same phone....This has been discussed many many times. The p800/802 is the same device except the second is for the Asian market.

From a marketing point of view, SE would be doing themselves a disfavour if they release a direct successor before the shelf life of the P800 is up. They will hold back the release until the can milk the maximum profit or shelf life of the P800. They need to cover all the capital they invested into the r&d and manufacturing of the P800. Unless hey are adopting Nokia's multiple release strategy, which means the new model will still be inferior to the P800 in at least some way. If not, I think we will hold the P800 for at least 9 months comfortably.

And hey guys, releasing such rumours would instigate potential buyers of the P800 to hold off their purchases (esp at this stage even before the phone is on global release) for what may take months to happen. This will reduce SE's revenue and this can't be too healthy for SE in the end. These are secrets for a reason, and if you want SE to keep producing good stuff, you might want to repect their decisions to keep these secret and honour your part in the secret.

this phone is not a "successor" to the P800, rather a more consumer version. It has some things that you won't like, and some things you will.

Don't count on them holding back for 9 months... Look at the t300 and t310, they milk out the cost price from the t300 then improve on it a little and call it the t310... All in a span of 2 to 3 months. They are going at it Nokia style ... And yes, i've heard it too, but NOT this 2 to 3 months... Starting to save money ... :-)

Many agents died to get you this info. Ladies and gentlemen, look out for the P850 (Mineral Grey pic here). Scheduled for Q4 2003/Q1 2004...

I guess with the P800 technology itself being a year old it wouldn't surprise me that they have slimmed down the electronics and are planning a new model which is thinner, perhaps also based on the new UIQ 2.1.

Not to mention, it may require 3G, and at least here in the States, 3G infrastructure wont be in place for quite some time - certainly much longer than six to nine months, and even at that, nobody knows. I know that some people in the US have had P800's (imports, perhaps), but I'm awaiting my P800 - it's only been available over here natively for a couple of months or so, that I'm aware of.

I realize that people around the world have had access to the P800 natively for much longer than we've had it here, but I'd be very surprised that SE would introduce a successor to the P800 in Q4 2003 when that would only give people over here and in many other places no more than around nine months to enjoy the P800.

The P800 is the most expensive phone out there at this point, and apart from the most dedicated tech-heads with tons of cash to throw around (which make up the smallest percentage of us), once again, I'd be very surprised to think that SE would think it was a smart move to introduce a successor to the P800 so soon. People aren't going to be so quick to keep swapping one $700 phone for another. It's not like replacing a $100 Nokia. I find that many people have a hard time justifying spending as much money as they do on their T68i's, yet alone a $650-$700 P800.

I could be mistaken, but regardless of what comes out, I'm going to enjoy my P800 for quite some time. Most of us want to spend our money wisely, but with all tech, there's always something better right around the corner. If someone can't be happy with a $700 phone in their pocket, they probably won't be happy with much. Not to mention, as far as this "successor" phone is concerned, I'll believe it when I see it. Tech never arrives on time.

I think we will be waiting til Q1-Q2 2004 for the actual P800 successor which I am sure will be amazing and I don't think that SE will make the mistake they made with P800 and announce it til it is ready cause people get pissed off waiting. I do however think that in the meantime they will release a scaled down version of the P800 with less features something similar to the 3650

I hear the follow on to the P800 is in fact called the P810.

Look out for a 1Q04 launch and the inclusion of 802.11. Also supposed to have some form of new screen technology.

Now, is anyone hearing about the Z200 or Z700 ?
