Sony's 12 inch tablet with a stylus

http://www.digitimes.com/news/a20141024PD204.html

Sony Mobile Communications will launch a 12-inch tablet in the first quarter of 2015. Several other vendors are also developing large-size tablets for launch in the first or second quarters, according to Taiwan-based supply chain makers.

The sources pointed out that Sony's 12-inch tablet will feature high-end specifications and come with a stylus, targeting mainly markets that have demand for graphics-related applications.

The sources are conservative about demand for large-size tablets since their clients have placed limited orders for these devices, but note that they have shown great interests in entering the segment.

Some vendors have already released large-size tablets earlier in 2014. Samsung released its 10.1-inch Pro series in the first quarter, pus

Not adopting a 2K display for battery life reasons is a thing of the past. read this new meizu mx4 pro review: "Although the JDI sourced panel has a higher resolution it also used a new Nega negative LCD display technology which uses around the same amount of power as the 1080p display on the MX4. So double the resolution, a larger panel and the no additional battery drain." and it doesn't even have s810, android L, sony's battery saving tech which all should bring more battery savings. btw, a good device for the price equipped with sony's z1 camera sensor. this era of smartphones competition is very good for consumers. i love to see these asian manufacturers like meizu, xiaomi, zte, etc. breathing in the big brands neck of samsung, lg, sony, htc and surpassing them in sales. you can not rely on your brand name anymore. you must work harder to convince consumers to choose your device over other one with good spec to price ratio like mx4 pro. sony needs to choose 2k display just for marketing reason alone because of this tough competition.

- so that same "New negative LCD display technology" with no 2K display, butt only with 1080 will be in the end more energy efficient, right ???

PS: sorry for my english

Your agreement or disagreement is not relevant to what you quoted. there is a fact, deal with it, or prove its wrong. moreover, as i wrote, s810, android L and sony's great battery saving features with improve battery life even more. xperia consumers should be the least worried about not having enough battery to survive a day of high usage. z devices have the best battery life on the market. you want several days of high usage? buy a pocketable external battery. anker makes great external batteries.

according to that review the battery life between mx4 and mx4 pro are pretty much the same!

At the same display technology (amoled,ips,tn,mva,....) is 1920x1080 more battery efficient, then on 2560x1440.

What proof do you need ???

In LCD regardless of what panel type it use, wether IPS, TN, VA or else, the pixels even if fully opened for light to pass they won't allow 100% of light to pass, and the dencer the pixels, more light will be blocked compared to less dence pixels (ie. Lower DPI) forcing the panel to have brighter backlighting for the same brightness as a lower resolution panel

AMOLED is different as the pixels them selfs will light, theres no need for backlighting. The problem in amoled is that more small lights are less efficient than one or few moreful lights... In amoled we have millions of these tiny lights... If we're just showing white color then amoled will actually consume more power than LCD... And going higher DPI means even worse

Ofcourse panel makers developed multiple tech. In order to save power those in some situations having a higher DPI panel will consume same power as a lower DPI panel with the help of such technologies.

There is something very interesting with Sony Single-Lens Display
Module.
The OLED display is covering 100% of the sRGB color space and has 800 cd/m2 maximum brightness.
http://www.sony.net/SonyInfo/News/Press/201412/14-118E/

They're also seems to have solved the problem with the blue OLED short lifespan with new pixel configuration.

Sony will be unveiling this display module for the first time in public at its booth at the "2015 International Consumer Electronics Show (CES)" to be held in Las Vegas, US from Tuesday, January 6th to Friday, January 9th, 2015. It will be exhibited in the form of a concept model called "SmartEyeglass Attach!," which proposes one potential use for the module and is meant to be attached to sports eyewear pieces.

It's not exactly the same as Xajel wrote and anyway, nobody should care about spec numbers alone. the reviewer talked about the end result of the battery life. what is more important: end result>spec numbers. he wrote that the battery life is similar to mx4. even if he is not accurate and not so scientific in his conclusion and the mx4 has a bit longer battery life, still, it should give all manufacturers including sony a green light to choose 2k panels for their flags. in terms of noticing a difference with the eyes, even if the changes are only subtle the other thing that comes into play in spec numbers and is more important imo then supposedly preserving a bit more battery life is marketing.
