Absolutely agree with that. But Sony has/had no other option I think... S820 will come earliest in Q4 and that's too late... Maybe Sony should try the new Intel chips...

BTW, I personally don't like how they combine microSD card slot and nano-SIM slot, because I need to only take out the memory card sometimes.
+1

Yet another confirmation for what the majority of the rumors say by another xda member (jonmorris) related to sony: the device that xperiajunkie got a hold of is the smaller update and the bigger update will be announced at ifa. the naming of the smaller update whether it is called z3_ or z4 or whatever doesn't really matter, read page 45: http://forum.xda-developers.c[....]eria-z4-thread-t2945351/page45
i would rate it as xr4-5 - at least very high chance of being correct.
so in other words, bigger updates like imx230, etc. most likely are for the october release main flag.

Thanks for the confirmation. My thoughts were right. The question is who the hell need this device?

Its the problem with putting all eggs in one basket, MediaTek cannot make a truly high end chip fast enough as they really need to keep Qualcomm on their toes.
WRT Samsung making a S810 variant of the S6, thats a big maybe but even if they do it will be limited in availability.

I don't see the point of unveiling Xperia Z4 at the moment, especially if it's just going to sport a Snapdragon 810 SoC. Sony should take a lesson or two from HTC M9, which is no different than M8, and is getting bashed left and right by all the major review sites.
Unveiling Xperia Z4 with a new design, Snapdragon 820 SoC, a drastically improved camera, might be a better choice than rushing the Z4 with the same stale design, Snapdragon 810 SoC, and the disappointing 20.7 MP camera with the pathetic image processing algorithm.
The design of the Z4 is fantastic, yes there's only a few slight difference in design between the Z3 but it feels like a new phone plus Samsung haven't really changed their design either just added a premium finish to what Sony and HTC have been doing for some time now and as far as the "pathetic" camera if you check back a page or 2 you'll see the Z4 already takes better images than the Z3 in SA mode and that's from an early pre production model. In the time I spent with the Z4 it was very fast and fluid and Lollipop works a treat with Sony's UI on top again giving the phone a new feel and look which is where I feel at least both Samsung and HTC failed to do with Lollipop on the S6 and M9.

Hi xperiajunkie,
Could you please let me know if the soft skin mode of stock camera app can be turn off on Z4 ?
It was really annoying on every previous model.
Also if you have a chance please upload some photo taken by it front camera.
Thank you in advance. |

Hi all, long time reader, (almost) first time poster...
Everyone keeps mentioning poor sales of z ultra, does anyone know the sales figures?...sure, they might not have been what Sony was expecting but were they truly that dismal? My dad n two other members of my family have a z ultra n they r great!
Also, am I the only one who will miss the magnetic charging ports? I really like that I can use bith my docks to charge the Z2 n Z2 Tablet...the port flaps keep the phone smooth n graceful whilst the magnetic port gives me the freedom to charge without wires. Unless the z4 is confirmed to have wireless charging im actually considering getting the z3 just to keep the magnet port!
We say this every year but hopefully this year is the one where Sony really shines for phones....such a shame theyre phones are the best around n noone seems to know this...
Happy Easter all
I'll miss the magnetic charging. When I get into work, I just drop my phone into the charging dock and it's so simple and looks great. Colleagues are envious of it. |

^ soft skin mode can definitely be turned off. I don't have any more camera samples available to me just now but if I can get another go I'll post them asap. The front camera is good step forward from the Z3, there is marked difference even when taken at the same resolution.

Another question is what exactly is the material of it frame ? Why it is look glossy like that ? |

The frame is metal that's for sure, and it's the paint job on the sides that give it an almost painted glass like effect whereas the sides on the Z3 are more of a metallic, matt colour. One of the biggest gripes I notices on the Z3 was how slippy it was, that has been addressed in the Z4 as it certainly feels more grippy in the hand.

Did z4 overheats? Or they managed to overcome it where LG and HTC FAIL |

I think Sony will do what Sony Ericsson has been doing for years.Remember w800->w810 or k800->k810,c905->w995..basically a small update(newer SoC and faster RAM),small redesign and it's ready. That way they save resources while they keep revenue going until the bigger update releases.I just hope they won't overprice it,as they usually do(xperia z3-series wasn't that overpriced, but xperia z2 was),so they can effectively challenge galaxy s6 or htc m9. |

@Kurtdean the Z4 did get warm but not hot. I was a little warmer than my Z3 when running apps but I'd put this down to a prototype and it's something I think they'll fix before it's release.

That article posted by josepnero is a good read. It was also mentioned a few weeks back that it was slightly suspicious that all the over heating rumours came out of Korea.
It's interesting how hardly any of the big trustworthy reviewers mentioned the LG overheating.
I have a dig bick You read that wrong |

@Ricky D
And LG is famous for overheating and throttling.G3 with 801 throttles a lot.also we all know first batch of everything has more failure.Sony may get refined 810 now that they have waited a couple of months |

Have you read many hands-on reviews or tried the device yourself? I've not found many hands-on reviews that say it definitely overheats to a worrying level.
