is it just my computer or does that "photo comparison review" only have two sets of photos compared?

"Noise is kept to a minimum on the GS5 and pictures are sharp all across the frameā€”not just in the centre. As for the colours, the white balance does its job, providing a fairly neutral image.

And what about the Xperia Z2? It should be said, the disappointing picture quality from the Xperia Z1's camera didn't exactly live up to Sony's advertising claims that using technology developed for its DSLRs would necessarily mean top quality for its smartphones. Worth noting, the Z1's lens issues popped back up on the subsequent Z1 Compact. Now the Xperia Z2 is meant to up the ante and correct these flaws, but using the same exact sensor. Sony has modified the Bionz image processor to deliver sharper, more detailed pictures than the Z1, which for itself focused primarily on light intake and gave the results one might expect (pictures with lots of light and lots of noise)".

Don't forget: the Xperia Z2 only takes 20.7-Megapixel photographs when you're in Manual mode; in Auto they're 8 Megapixels. That's another drawback compared to the GS5, which gives you the best of its abilities, or close to it, by default.

an unwise comment. they have good words for the m8 despite staying at 4 MP while bashing xz2 for keeping the overall file size of the auto shot at the more manageable 8 MP. must've not heard about the benefits of pixel binning.

Basically, we feel the Galaxy S5 is a perfect any-circumstances camera phone, whereas the Xperia Z2 is also excellent, but only with urban or landscape photography. For "social" photography when you're trying to take a picture of several people standing at close distance, or, really, any subjects less than three metres away, the Z2's picture quality simply collapses in on itself (the only exception being portraits, which it's good at)".

mentions many things without actual photos to compare? ah i get it. this is one of those spammer sites i never found credible. they "versus" things without actually doing tests. believe me, i have doubts in sony's efforts myself but if you present something like that without actual photos, i'll be quick to thumb you down.

"The Xperia Z2 is also a step up from its predecessor in low lighting, providing more detail and overall more flattering picture quality. It comes closer to the One (M8)'s performance, just with more red (the One M8 takes colder shots, while the GS5 stays neutral). After testing both phones' cameras inside-out, we can confirm that the Z2 does take in more light than the GS5, even when there's a fair amount of it, resulting in greater detail in shadowy areas. Plus, the flash doesn't blow subjects out and makes for much nicer images with good colours"

seriously? closer to the m8's performance? there goes all the tiny speck of credibility that site has ...

and z2's photos actually look better, in my eyes. maybe except for that low light shot won by htc one but i believe the z2 photo can easily be made better than m8's photo there. just a little brightening on photoshop will make that better.

they should have made video comparisons to make the s5 results look better or maybe they should've shown landscape photos because the s5 apparently wins in such scenes.

to summaries, they say that the android flags are comparable and comes down to which unique features one will care for. 2 meaningful exceptions, m8 has the weaker camera and z2 has the best battery life, about the battery: "...But the undoubted leader is z2, which can live for about 1.5-2 days, this result is similar to the time of Galaxy Note 3, which is one of the most long-lived of smartphones on the market (in class). nice sony.

My Galaxy Note 3 T-Mobile used to last for almost 1.5 day. However, that is not the case after my KitKat update, that caused more nuisance.

@McKinley
So basically the Z2 arguably has the longest lasting battery out of all flagships since it also has kitkat.

Maybe that's to do with tmobile firmware as my Note 3 certainly doesn't have worst battery life after kitkat

Anyway it is great to see Sony Z2 excelling in battery and camera and display. I played with one yesterday and it looks beautiful too-better looking than S5 IMO. Hopefully it will sell well -it is a shame it's availability is limited here in uk at the moment

@aussieland1
Any phone looks better then S5.
interesting. Z1 and Z1C are available in my country (Israel) about 1.5 after their announcements. Z2, i guess from next month for sure. Z Ultra started to sell only from january but i think they don't try to push that device to consumers here as its more of a phone in a tablet. all in all, Israeli consumers can't complain.

Excelling in screen and battery maybe but the camera is not great, not much of a step up from the Z1.

Look at this comparison between the Z2 and the S5,one of many and the S5 even takes sharper pictures than the Z2 in low light.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=N0uBJf_iuSk

The contrast on the Sony still isn't right with the camera, the pics are still soft and not sharp and details are still smudged by the bad compression.

The reviews so far seem to suggest excellent camera though - I guess we won't know for sure until we see more samples online
