Also Z3 remains the only high end offering from Sony left for this year. No other high end devices.

What about that rumored WP8.1 phone in July, does it count?

AFAIK there was no high end WP8 device planned by Sony Mobile. There were some ODM devices that were to run WP8.1 but I have no updates on their progress at this stage.

Why 801 and not 805? Or even when it will be announced? 2015 will be a significant upgrade?

Well, it is clear there will be no difference between the processors, then it is logical that there would be Xperia Z3 Compact and when will the next version of the Xperia Z Ultra? Xperia Z4 and comes with a compact Xperia Z4?
NO

The problem with snapdragon 805 is that it lacks a cellular modem which makes it more expensive, bigger and draws more power. I still think Sony must use it the next flagship to be competitive though as everyone wants the latest soc available no matter how good or bad it is

FYI, SD805 will companion with latest 20nm modem chip, but yes it will require PCB re-design to fit a discrete baseband chip due to lack of cellular integrated unlike SD800/801.

Personal remarks, I strongly agree if Sony decided to stick with SD801 for Z3 (same when they once skipped SD600 in first Z's day). It will help and reduce cost in aspect of software maintenance team and support, anyway it will be another big and bold bet which could affect total sales target as well.

@randomuser So Z3 camera's optics and sensor are the same? So it wont have support for raw mode? This is actually what I was most excited on. SD 801 is ok for me but what will be the selling point of Z2 then?

Z3 will probably be a reversed Arc S.

Arc to Arc S was basically a processor bump. Z3 will be a bump on some things here and there, but most things will stay the same. Tbh, if they aren't going to improve the camera and the processor, they should just release something for Japan and leave the rest for the Z4 already.

Optics same but newer sensor - 1/2.4". Slightly smaller than Z2 sensor. But still performance should be same.

No raw mode though.

Main selling point for Z3 will be its design and sleekness.

^why there is no raw mode for the new sensor? The mid-end sensors from Sony have raw mode. That is kinda weird.

Correct me if I am wrong but doesnt raw mode help produce better pics when oversampling is applied? So when a user takes photo using superior-auto, the photos would look better cause of less processing.
