Oh Bono those were your own photos from your own Z1! I thought you were sharing some photos you found. Didn't look for information.
Well congrats for the Z1.. And nice shots.. Though let down by the Z1 quality at the moment (or maybe somehow we are expecting too much from these cameraphones). Didn't like the detail on those photos.. But you haven't lost any bit of your touch.. Nice framing to get somehow interesting images from a rather boring and ordinary scene.. |

You can't really expect much from that tiny sensor.. as soon as they announced the specs I knew that I shouldn't keep my hopes up for the Z1.
The rumors were about this:
http://www.gsmarena.com/alleg[....]ny_honami_emerge-news-5948.php
"Sony Honami will reportedly pack a Sony 1/1.6" Exmor RS stacked sensor and Cybershot G glass lens. A 1/1.6" sized camera sensor will be larger than any of its competitors', save for the one in the Nokia 808 Pureview. You can see how it stacks up against the current establishment in the graphic below."
And they had my full attention... too bad it turned out to be much, much smaller than that.
I don't think it can be considered as a potential 1020 rival.. of course, that depends on the perspective.. even an iPhone 3gs can be a potential rival if you so desire
Z1 should be compared to the 1520 .. not the 1020, let alone the 808.
Сашо wait for the WP Black update.. it seems like they will fix a lot of the issues the 1020 has at the moment, expect for the edge blur.. that's hardware.

I seem to notice that you are most of the time already judging things just by looking at the sensor size, just like with the 1520.
True that sensor size is a big factor in image quality, but I also think that sensor technology is also a factor, a sensor could be smaller but could be more advanced hence it might equal a larger sensor's image quality. There's also a lot of other factors affect IQ as well in which I know you guys had a very long debate here in this thread.
I still am a little bit confused as to why you guys are kind of expecting for a large sensor to be placed in a phone and pixel peep hoping for stunning quality pixel per pixel, why not just bring a nice compact camera with you always? problem solved, true that you'd be carrying it around but it'll solve all those nitpicking/complaints of having unsatisfactory image quality.
I'm not against cameraphones, truth is I hoped Z1 had xenon flash on it like the 808 and 1020 have, but at the end it still is a cameraphone, and they all pretty much deliver decent to great quality on 5 megapixels which is plenty for printing typical photo sizes as well as online sharing.

There is some decent detail in the Sony Z1 but there is a few blurry spots as is the 1020 too but not as much. Sony have released an update to fix images and am still waiting for it on my device. It was also a windy day which might explain some leaves looking blurry but overall to my eyes the Sony looks decent. Yeah it's not quite the detail of the 1020 in 5mp mode but it's certainly not as bad as people make out. If you try hard enough you'll get great pics. More often than not using auto is useless in my view.

Sassho, the galaxy s4 is not only one of the best camera phone, it's the best smartphone ever built ... until now
What you say here is only to tease the majority of users (I9505) because there really is no difference between the two on camera : http://www.gsmarena.com/samsung_galaxy_s4_i9500_vs_i9505-review-930p4.php and http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2283201&page=9
Not to mention that there will very soon have a new firmware for the I9005 camera

Thanks David for this link , I don't see before. Fortunately, this comparison confirms my words. Octa camera liitle better - no oversharpened counturs over mountains and other objects , image look is better. I see shots by Note 3 with last firmware - photos are not so good as in SGS4 Octa .
Compare this , don't look Exif data for for an impartial opinion. Where is the better shots - left or right?

Pictures on the right are better for my eyes without looking the exif...
For the crops the picture on the right suffer a bit of corner softness but not that much.

The octa is very good for what it is, but it can't really compete with the 1020 and the 808.
More noise, narrower lens/field of view, no lossless zoom during neither video or stills, no xenon flash.. it doesn't belong in the same group.
It might get close in certain conditions, but overall... its part of the Z1, 1520, iPhone 5s, G2, etc. group.

Camera compare Z1 vs Note 3
http://www.phonearena.com/rev[....]s-Sony-Xperia-Z1_id3468/page/3
@cu015170 - this year I'm very disapointed from "photoflagmans" by Sony and Nokia. SGS4 is the best cameraphone this year and Iphone 5s. Nice detail and colors , low noise by SGS4 Octa. Per 5mp might be even better and better than Lumia's / Z1 |
