Which iPhone ? The 5 can't really compete with the 808 in any meaningful way.. no zoom, awful sound, tons of noise in low light..

Maybe the 3gs or the 4 are better,. I don't have one to test it out

I've done my own tests

my 808

I doubt the 808 could do as good

Even the iPhone shoots better video than the 808.

I am getting a Sony Z1 on new contract with Three coming Tuesday. Am sticking with Android anyway. In the right hands of mine I shall get good images and it does take good images. At the moment an update is coming to fix the blur in the Sony Z1 which was just a software processing issue. Nokia has had these issues too

This image is terrible(no offence to the shooter) looking at the right corner it's blurry up close. It's either the phone or user error but more likely the phone looking at it as the centre is sharp-ish

Being of potential rival, this review of Z1 favours it pretty well. I think with some reviews people don't know what their doing and the Sony performs better in different settings.

Some of them blur the right corner.. the lens is way to complex for top notch quality control at mass production levels, in fact I am surprised that some of them are sharp from end to end considering how wide they are.

Its way better than any other phone out there anyway

The Z1's camera came way below my expectations, so its a pass.. just like the 1020.

But overall the Z1 is not even a potential rival when it comes to the camera.. the 1020 is way better in almost every way.

Here are some with no blur

The new update out now is giving it new processing algorithms and fixing other stuff. Of course it has potential and it performs better in certain settings. And like I said some reviewers don't know their cameras well. They are nice shots but as they always say it depends who is behind the lens. I have managed to get cracking pics out of an average camera and although the 808 is good I don't see it as the best not through my eyes. Am just waiting now for Sonysta to come on with his babyish giggling about others mentioning even any other phone apart from his precious 808. Rather than having a proper discussion he laughs at others and talks complete nonsense. This forum isn't what it once was for trolls like that. He states he's an expert in photography, I have not seen anything of the sort. He just spouts that the rest of us know nothing about photography cos we don't have an 808. Am sick of it. I know mobile photography is fun and convenient but it's not as challenging as a DSLR and I don't care what anyone says no camera phone beats a DSLR. I am with False_Morel on this one.

The 808 is an imaging tool.. its geared towards photographers more than any other phone out there.

The Z1 can't really compete with the 1020.. it just doesn't have the hardware for it. Much smaller sensor, the lens can't resolve detail like the cz on the 1020, the flash is much weaker, it doesn't have OIS.. its pretty much no contest.

Yes because video cameras and smartphones are primarily used to tape live performances. Everything else goes way down the priority list; that's if making the list to start with. Maybe it's only about live performances and for everybody. (and btw the iPhone video link is broken or at least can't be opened where I live)

I really can't tell why are you doing all this. I thought, and based on previous discussions we had, that we could head into a fun and respectful discussion at least, if not all fruitful.

But right away on the first page when you pulled that JPEG compression excuse I knew I did a mistake.
And had to go along.. This happens when one throws himself into the wrong ring but can't retreat since he would be taken from behind. One must stay and do the thing.

You say the 808 is an imaging tool geared for photographers more than other phone.
I simply wonder then why photographers don't own 808s. If it's such a powerful pocket camera that phones as well and browses the internet, why no photographer simply getting it and using it as a standby or a secondary camera for basic stuff at least.
The 808 is a simple point and shoot. Even low end compacts allow you to do more and give you more control over basic stuff! Yes it may beat low and mid-range compacts in terms of IQ, and compete with the high-end ones. But that doesn't make it a good tool! It lacks too much to be even considered as a basic tool for any serious photography.

You even went as far as claiming the benefit of a DSLR is marginal to make it worthy spending on and bothering carrying it around!

One antic after the other, I totally wonder why you would make a joke out of yourself like this. Truly strange.

Arguing not just against random forum members over here, but against proven experts and scientific tests all quoted in this thread. Are you a creationist by any chance btw? I wouldn't be surprised to be honest..

You showed a lack of any sense or knowledge what photography is even basically about. Little knowledge on the technical level coupled with major pieces of misinformation, and almost no knowledge at all at the artistic side of the hobby.

Too much exaggerations and false information. And this is what lead me to open this thread in the first place.
Because while Nokia's engineers did many mistakes with the 1020 that will need to be addressed in later updates, I don't think it's fair to discredit them for what they did right! And this affects the consumer market as a whole as well.

When on the blogosphere such a flawed claim get spread and advocated that the 808 is better than the 1020 in every way and by a decent margin as well! These people like you would lead Nokia to reconsider certain things believing they are meeting some demands while in reality it is the wrong voices they would be listening to.

And it happened before in several examples in other areas where some manufacturers needed to retract or adjust certain products according to some complaints only for them to be hit by a more massive wave of complaints for making things worse, ironically lead by mostly the same voices realizing they were just wrong!

I'll settle with this rant and get done with this thread..
I was waiting for Sonysta's reply to make it a full wrap-up, but can't tell what's taking him that long.

I have an F1 Usually use Ilford paper to develop.. shooting b/w film is tons of fun, I wish I had the time to do more of it.

But this is my set up.. the 808 being my main camera and smartphone of course
