IMHO Sony MP is big enough after the XZ launch so they should hold their own event for any major announcement. But what do I know? |

This is pretty cool, hook up the phone to the tv and viola a portable console. I feel more playstation integration is needed to differentiate Sony from the other firms. |

The DualShock video inspired me for my new house in three weeks, I still have my Xperia T, which I'm going to buy an tv dock for so I can use it as an AiO Android PC for my living room. Playing all kinds of games on emulators, playing movies, surfing the web etc etc |

Kaz is really amazing for initiating the integration of all Sony divisions |

Before any of that, the one thing I want from Sony is a screen which has a contrast ratio over 1000:1 (why is the Z's contrast only ~750:1?) and viewing angles such that colour doesn't fade or shift and contrast doesn't decrease when you tilt the phone just a few degrees off perfectly straight. Its annoying to say the least.
It bugs me that a company known for legendary displays is skimping out on the Displays of its supposed flagships. |

Phablet will use JDI panel. Same as the Ion/TX screen quality and specifications wise. So viewing angles still not "stellar"
Presumably the resolution has been bumped, or will the phablet be 720 now like ion/TX?
Interesting (if disappointing) news. Price point now becomes even more interesting.

Wow, 1500:1 contrast ratio. Amazing really, and blows away the idea that the screen is washed out. It really is just the ridiculous grey UI elements that kill the reviews for it. Such a stupid nice decision. If they wanted to make it grey then they had to make it light grey, not dark grey that just looks like washed out black.
Maybe they're right.......
But maybe GSM Arena are also right. See they seem to get a contrast of 705, which makes no sense.....

Are you going to claim that they're lying or biased or whatever?
And that doesn't really change the fact that the viewing angles are terrible. Tilt the screen even slightly and the colours wash out or undergo stupid degrees of chromatic shift. Off angle also causes contrast to drop to extent where drop-shadows beneath text are no longer visible. Its really disappointing...

It has been explained a 100 times already that RETAIL Z/ZL and Demo/Review Z/ZL units do NOT have the same screen!. GSMArena and every other review site have trash screens but retail units don't. Retail units have screens as good as best in class.
Yes it was a stupid move by Sony but it was due to shortage of Sharp Full HD panels, which is why they had to put in trash screens in demo/review and very few retail units.

I have seen retail units, the blacks are acceptable, but no way comparable to Ion's. Ion's blacks are really very deep.
Sony should use screens from the same manufacturer that made Ion's screen. |

It's the same manufacturer. And I have to disagree. Ion screen was the best in 2012 but it isn't better than Z's. It's an oversharp, oversaturated display that can almost blind you. That definitely doesn't make it better.
In Galaxy Super Amoled ways yes, but not in terms of "REAL" image quality.
The entire 2012 Xperia range in fact has oversaturated blindingly sharp displays. Which includes my S too sadly

Here's some compare and contrast. See how blacks are poorly displayed on the Z.

PS Not a demo unit. It is the telco's property. |

Hmm clearly this video cannot be trusted, seeing as one phone is either from the future or past! AND in different time zones
But for real, I feel videos or even photos don't give a good impression of a screen and comparisons, best to see it with your own eyes. Has the shortage of Sharp Full HD panels been addressed or is it still present? |

lol. You are funny. The one on the left is superimposed on. Of course not! My are you dumb? I can guarantee I didn't superimpose or put a fake Xperia Z there. Btw, superimposing is not possible. haha. Funny people. |
