That's what I was eluding to, the roaming switch off in certain areas. The guy at work cant get a signal at home, think he's in Richmond so that would make sense as I'm sure there's decent 3G service there.

He has to resort to the old techniques we had to use back in the days of Mercury / One 2 One, stand by the window, no chance of being able to lay in bed or sit on the sofa and make a call. The 900mhz band has always been O2 and Voda's strength, helping with indoor coverage.

Wonder how much of an issue it is for 3 users?

Hmmm, true to an extent but in recent years I have found indoors T Mobile & Three to have improved whereas where I live O2 has seemed to become slightly worse in my house. I hate Vodafone terrible network

I dont know if i told you before i once had a job interview with Vodaphone. Wasnt pretty.

O2 have terrible network coverage in my experience. However, the weekend ive been away with the girlfriend and they were more reliable (GiffGaff equiped N8) than my SGS3 running Three.

As for my trip to NI, i dont remember once seeing the R on my signal strength meter and the furthest south i went was around the Newcastle area and the Mourne mountains.

In Birmingham Vodafone 3G is pretty poor & I also find their voice quality horrible no matter what phone you use.

Its still not enough though is it ?

Like i said on Esato in another thread a week or two ago, i spent a couple of hours at work watching Netflix and spent a gig or two in that time alone.

The whole point of 4G is to make such services not only possible which obviously they are with 3G, but also a new way of life, a new way of using your phone, a new way of thinking that your phone is a superfast always connected media hub.

Which couldnt be further from the truth.

Yes,if people want to pay they should have the option of unlimited data. This stupid tariff whoever thought it up needs a reality check. Data consumption is growing fast & what have they included, unlimited calls

Well if i can use up a gig or two in an hour or two of Netflix in one morning, i dread to think how quickly i could use up 3, 5 or 8gb of bandwith on a 4G connection.

Now, if they had a limit of say, 30, 50 and 80gb respectively, that would be more worthwhile.

If your a general browser no streaming just browse and download the odd app then 4G is not worth it anyway. I don't watch movies on my mobile but I do watch the odd You Tube video.

Those kind of people usually go down the PAYG route with a data bundle.

My mother is that kind of person, she uses Giffgaff with unlimited data. Thats not unlimited.

It's unlimited if you just browse but it's not if you abuse it
