Wow!! That's a long wait for Xperia S owners they should have just launched this thing with ICS by the time Xperia S gets ICS, the HTC One X, Samsung GS3 and LG Optimus 4X HD will be out running ICS, and the GS2, GNote, Sensation, Sensation XE, Evo 3D etc... will also be up to date, this is becoming way too much like the X10 debacle, I hope Sony manage to get the update out quicker.
Makes no sense what they are doing, so by the time the XS gets 4.0 the Arc S, Neo V, and Ray will already have it, what's up with that?

I'm renewing my contract and can get any smartphone I want for free.
Thinking of getting the Xperia S but I have one question before I grab one.
How is the back cover? Dose it fall off easy?
I'm asking because on the ones I tried at the stores the back cover fell off pretty easy.
(ok, it had the alarm thing on but still...)

Re the ICS update, the actual delay isn't too much of an issue - I'd rather have a stable version, but as others have mentioned, the decision to wait until the end of May/June is a strange one.
I can only imagine that as the Beta Rom has been available for non NXT devices for several months the ROM and modification for the new NXT phones (i.e X, P, and U) is going to take longer. Would explain why the P also isn't launching with ICS.
Sony need to be careful thou, as people have mentioned, Samsung have released ICS and HTC are shortly due to realise, case of Sony being left behind again.
I just hope the wait is worth it.

Not sure why Sony are trying to do here - either they are being incredibly open, or a little bit silly. It's almost like they don't want you upgrading to ICS.

WTF?
Why cant they just cutdown on their UI like HTC do by giving older devices a lighter Sense3.6 instead of 4.0, its almost as if Sony are saying "We are too lazy to optimize ICS so either take it as it is unstable OR stay with GB" very disappointing i must say.

I think Xperia S will be okay, but I doesn't look good for the Arc/S or those phones only with 512 ram.
GB is very slick in it's current form on the S, but the whole point is it's outdated and Sony should have realised with the reviews coming out that this was one of the major criticisms. No other maunfacturer has discouraged an upgrade to ICS as Sony have, as I said above it just seems a really bizarre move on Sony's part. Everyone else is moving on to ICS but Sony want to stick with GB - there were no similar issues with the transition from Froyo.
For my personally, it's a shame the S isn't getting ICS sooner but I can wait. What I do think thou is Sony are playing a dangerous game - HTC One X and S and SGS3 will all be out shortly, all sporting ICS - Sony's flagship phone, plus the U and P look like all launching with GB and Sony will be left behind - albeit for 3 months or so, but realistically this means their main lineup is outdated and HTC/Samsung will steal the show in terms of sales.
I commended Sony for being honest and forthcoming on the ICS update last year/early this year, but they've dropped the ball on this one - It's virtually incomprehensible that the Xperia S is the last phone to get ICS - 3 months after it's launched.

$488aud at a major Australian phone retailer. Really good price!
Sony stores will be selling it for 570ish. Still a decent price considering other flagship device prices here when launched

Nothing to complain about. I have no idea what the problem is.

Gap between cover and body on the top, erased soft-touch, staggers the lower part under transparent line |

No issues with build quality here - I would say it's much better than the Arc, just feels really solid. |
