I agree that Sony phones their displays have great clarity sharpness compared to the standard 800x480 plus colours are vivid without being over saturated like S-AMOLED. Even the budget Xperia U has a smashing display. S-AMOLED is over rated. Older SE displays like the w995 were amazingly bright and brilliant in sunshine. I don't like the blue tint in whites on S-AMOLED.

I have compared the XS screen with GS3 and One X multiple times and I can't appreciate enough how much better the XS screen looks than GS3. The One X screen is close to XS overall but XS is noticeably crisper and sharper than One X screen. The same was observed by fellow member smclion102

I don't think people are arguing about color reproduction and image quality. The XS beats the competition hands down on those areas.
The problem is viewing angles.
It's not that you are going to look at your mobile screen from a 30* angle but color reproduction really suffers on XS even with a slight angle. Come on, how often do you hold your phone at a perfect angle to your eyes? The slightest angle turns crisp white on the XS screen to yellow and this makes the overall image suffer and brings down the overall feeling of the screen.
Hold it in a perfect 90* angle in front of you and you have the best screen there is out there, to quote Steve Jobs, "it's magical". Tilt it a few degrees and you have a not a disaster of a screen but a bit more washed out experience.
In my opinion, I would like to have a little better viewing angle on my XS screen. |

No. Some people here said GS3 and One X have much superior screen to XS. And that XS can't match the best screens out there. |

Viewing angles?? Who cares?? I view my screen head on and as for privacy then don't make it so others can see in the first place.

Read what I wrote again. It's not that people can't read your texts from an angle, it's that the colors change, ex. white becomes yellow, the image becomes a bit washed out etc.
And as I wrote I'm not talking about large angles I'm talking about a slight tilt of 2..3 degrees.

I dunno if my XS is different from yours but I don't notice much degradation in IQ with slight changes in viewing angle. Only when I move say 30 degrees or beyond, the image quality is noticeably worse. And even at 20 degrees or so, the overall quality is still better than Galaxy S3.

I absolutely agree with ya.  Sony is poor in display area... And I still don't understand why SONY don't use Gorilla Glas... It hurts so much...
Bonovox: I would take the HTC One X screen. IMO the No.1

Sony's mineral glass imo is just as good if not better than Gorilla glass. The Xperia U the glass on that is super tough.

Sony use more plastic than a real glas. It feels really bad... I prefer gorilla glas, but the dragontrail glas on the Xperia active sounds interesting... Unfortunately the only Sony phone which has this glas... Can't understand this too...

Yes  did have good screens even though they were 65k, but you cannot say that for x10 against the competition. Its also very commendable that was the first manufacturer to have 65k out with s700 or s710i, and I wish they continue to innovate. If sat down without releasing 65k, or if nokia never got out 16m displays, the market would have never moved on.

The problem going on here is that we have 2 diffrent opinions right now regarding the screen being used in future phones from sony.
Group A does not want wide viewing angle and group B wants it. I think I can assume for all of us that neither of us have anything against the picture quality, and color reproduction by the screen used by sony/ . I too have seen myself and can say xs easily has better colours and sharper screen presently on the market.
But, Is it wrong to have that same colours visible on wider angle? If so Why? Privacy does not have any application here. Texts, would be readable on xs either straight on or off center. Pictures and videos too, the only thing that is lost is color degradation.

I am not too convinced by gorilla glass. Dragontrail seems much more capable. Also i have seen x10, arc take lots of abuse, but the screens have not been cracked! Infact, I have seen a nexus with gorilla glass crack on just one drop. Its really strange we dont have videos about drop tests on xperias(besides active and go).
