Here is the patent in question and in the patent application Apple gave an example of the sort of task their patent protected.

And as one guardian commenter points out:

"How can you patent the idea of recognising a phone number and acting on it? Surely you should only be able to patent the technological solution? Apple is concentrating on stymieing competition rather out-competing it."

Perhaps Apple are annoyed at how well Android is doing
and Apple just want everyone in the world to have one of there devices !

Apples i0S is nice but somewhat feel its boring
if they let loose abit and copied Android then it would be better,

I feel sorry for the Americans if this happens though maybe Apple will sell there phones cheaper for there
fellow americans to compensate this

If the patent in question goes against the better good of the people, then such a patent can be dismissed, right?

Don't think patent law recognises the better good of the people although the courts will have final say in any such decision.

Hahaha. Depends upon whether there's an apple fanboy in the panel.

@xtacy, it is clear that patent law is taken seriously and its not about a joke or about what is good for the people... its a serious judgement of who has designed something that is unique and not previously patented.

Emotion does not enter the equation

please don't try to dismiss it all as fanboy joke as that is such a weak and unfounded argument

@masseur, I do understand the severity of the class action. But I have seen patents disputed before.

The part about the apple fanboy was just an attempt at humour. I wasn't being serious about it.
