@Phoner

But then what is that music controls widget in the screenshots of Cm7 in the last page?

I read about the equalizer in GsmArena's preview of Neo. Check that, they might have screenshots or a video.

Btw..CM7 ver 004 is out!

WORKING
- audio
- video player
- sensors
- gps
- 3d
- lights
- camera
- GSM
- data - fixed
- bt
- wired headset
- apps 2sd ( native with provided baseband
and kernel)

WORK IN PROGRESS

- wifi
- FmRadio

BUGS
camera - max resolution VGA (driver still
needs some patches)
camera - no video recorder (faulty
hardware encoder)
video - video streming is not working

I'll try it out at the end of the day

EDIT: Looks like vibration doesn't work. Jerpelea said he'll release 004a with a fix for the vibration. Wait for that.

I flashed the baseband 006 that is in the archive together with CM7. App2sd working for me.
I managed to get music player from Android 3.0 working on X8. Some screenshots:

Can someone advise me on the best keyboard to download for the x8?? I did download smart keyboard pro but was disappointed that it does not show proper graphical smilies. Is there any Android keyboard with proper graphical smilies?? The standard x8 keyboard is fiddly

dont forget me, i too use x8 and read this thread everytime, but im not into custom roms, so i cant relate in that matter

still waiting for the last update that SE will give us, hopefully it will really boost the performance of the phone rather than enabling ANT+ support like before but phone performance compromised.

@bonovox
im using default keyboard and swype as my alternative, i like gingerbread keyboard but vibra is missing and emoticons is not in full preview.

@Bonovox
I'm using HTC_IME keyboard for mdpi screen resolution. Not using smilies on it, but can recommend it as an intuitive keyboard.

@mhyke
I am not counting on any significant official software update that could improve X8 performance or feature wise. After using custom ROMs I am sure that I will never flash back to stock 2.1 again. And now there is a new CM blog dedicated to X10 mini/pro and X8. That makes flashing custom ROM even more accessible.

I agree with Phoner. I tried out CM 004 and the only reason I got back to the stock ROM was lack of vibrations and wifi. Both of which will be fixed in 005. Using Xrecovery to switch ROM's is pretty easy (although I always end up screwing myself by improper backing up of apps, need to take Phoner's help )

@Phoner
Can you please post the link for the apk of that music app?
I'll pm u my queries too

The only thing that's stopping me from using custom roms is the bugs/work in progress features

i always use WIFI/Camera/Video Streaming and Radio

so basically if i switch to custom rom right now, i might not enjoy it, because of these missing features, maybe if everything is fixed and it's already going in that direction then that's the time il be using CM mod

Thanks guys for the replies. I still love my x8 over all the other Xperia phones so far. I don't know why I just do. Could not care less about the camera although you can get decent shots if you try like this I did

@Karun
Is it stable? Do you experience some random boot?
Right now I'm using 2.2.1 CM Floyo v0.15(racht)+miniCM Beta2(ponanovn) with baseband 015. I also use partition 1,2 GB ext3 & 5,9 GB FAT32 in my microSD.
It restart after I use root apps like root explorer, TB. Also heavy apps like Dolphin Browser HD.

Otherwise, it's pretty stable though.

@opexblue
I tried out CM7 004 and it is pretty stable. Has native app2sd, no ext partition required. Root apps are a bit of a bother and sometimes cause reboots.
I am waiting for 005 which fixes wifi and adds streaming support.
