I have a vodafone locked and branded W910. When i turn it on the red light on the back comes on and it says insert Sim. Now checking in the service menu shows it is locked to vodafone. checked the reader pins all seems fine. Now it did come back working but now gone again any ideas guys.
Ok update if i put a non voda sim in it says insert correct sim card so it appears the reader is working any ideas.

First you have to unlock the phone somewhere to can use it with other sim cards.
The best mobile phone brand died with Sony Ericsson's death. Shame on you Sony for killing it! And, of course, for ruining the Xperia brand... Mediar's Site |

Have you tried your Vodafone simcard in another phone, maybe it's damaged or not working for some reason ?

If the phone does that with all SIM cards it may be barred or hardware/firmware problem aswell... You can first try updating the firmware with SEUS or flash it with some of the online flashing clients like totalgsm... If that doesn't help there might be hardware issues also... The contact between the simcard holder and the motherboard may also cause issues like this... But the first and best to try is to reflash the phone. You will get sure then if it is software or hardware problem (or actually solve it if is software one) .
