Why the hell are the SE phones so slow? |

I have had a W880i, W910i and now a C902. All of these phones are extremely slow when doing multitasking, like listening to music while typing SMS.
I've read that I'm not the only one complaining about this.
So what's the deal with not developing faster software? |

True. This is my first SE and its slower when typing SMS. Sometimes i type like two sentences and it shows a letter added like 3 seconds per letter, and then all of a sudden, the whole paragraph shows up. But its fine, its just a little slow, it compensates for being able to multitask. IMO, its not a PC. |

it can't multitask. it gives the appearance of being able to by having a separate java chip. |

My K850 is exactly the same thank goodness its not my main phone. Im unable to run Music Player, Opera Mini, OperaMini3 ,and MXit at once without it slowing down, i tried it on a W880 as well and same thing yet my NOKIA S60 N81 can easily do all that plus more and still run smoothly. I thought "dumb" Java phones were supposed to be faster

Well, the "dumb" phone's CPU is a lot slower and its RAM memory is a lot lower, so what exactly did you expect? Now who's "dumb"

Can you please tell how much RAM memory the k850 has?

K850's CPU is running at 220mhz right? Well my old N80's CPU is the same speed with little RAM as well and guess what? Its able to do the same with not as much lag as a K850.
Who's dumb? SE.

Aha. FYI, the N80's got about 19-21 MB of RAM after boot, which is significantly more than what K850 or any other A2-based phone - or earlier for that matter - has to offer. There's no way on earth you could compare that.
And with regards to the K850's RAM amount, I can't remember the exact amount, but it was increased compared to, say, K800, because the A2 platform is indeed greedy.

Don't A2 platform phones have 16mb of ram, the old A1 phones are 8mb or something. |

Yes N80 had 19-21mb which is not enough at all and on top of that its not able to handle Java as well as a SE Dumb Phone can but it could still keep on going smoother than a K850.

I think, you guys should check out w760i. Though i didnt multitask in it, its single operations were the fastest i have seen so far. |

By using some utilities, I found K850 preserve 1MB RAM for it's java app.
Processor is different, we can't compare ARM11 in N80 with ARM9 in K850. It's like comparing Core2Duo with early Pentium 4. Symbian requires more RAM and processing power.
Something like this: A200 vs Symbian = Win98 vs WinVista in terms of memory and processor requirement.
Although I prefer A200's UI.
SE hardware platform is quite old for nowadays. Still the same hardware since K800. ARM9 also doesn't have enough power to do VGA recording.
Just for information, and I still love SE.
