V630i Slowing Down, Crashes, Doesn't Like To Turn On. |

Hey all, first I'd like to say this is my first post woo!
But anyway yeah as the title says, I have a V630i. I've had it since the end of August '07. I never really read any reviews on it, I just saw it for sale with £40 off and the specs looked great so I nabbed it. It served me very well for the first 6-7 months, but after that it really slowed down. The inbox capacity is huge, about 1000 sms' I think. This is great for me as I like to keep some texts. But even after I only had around 100 in my inbox, scrolling through took forever. And now with my inbox being 600-700 messages full, its incredibly slow. Also sometimes my phone will just turn itself off, even when fully charged. If I try and turn it back on it will vibrate as normal but it just goes back off again. This can happen several times in a row.
Does anyone have a solution for this? Do Sony Ericssons just generally slow down? Because this is ridiculous. I can delete about 2-300 texts that i dont need to help it.
Also is it possible for me to transfer my texts to another phone? I have seen SIM readers that say they can do this. But I'm not sure if my texts are kept on the SIM or on the phone.
Last question, is it possible for me to access the 15 MB of onboard memory through my computer? I have the wire to connect to my phone but it only reads the memory card.
Thanks alot for your time. |

Hey - congrats on buying a great phone!
I had the V630 until I lost it in March this year and updated to the V640i.
I didn't notice any issues with the V630i slowing down even though I had 700+ SMS messages on board. The messages are stored in the Phone memory not the SIM card but with the V640i (and other A200 platform phones) the SMS can be stored on the M2 card.
If you want to archive SMS messages I recommend using MyPhoneExplorer which is freeware and absolutely superb for backing up/entering/editing contacts, transferring files, archiving, writing and recieving SMS messages, managing the calendar and synching with Outlook. It can be downloaded here. Only compatible with phones but still Highly Recommended.
As far as your phone turning itself off... You could try updating the firmware via the SEUS (Sony Ericsson Update Service). You'll need IE6/IE7 plus the USB cable to do this. Make sure you back up all your files first as you will have everthing wiped during the process.
Yes, you can access the onboard memory of the phone via USB but some protected files will not show up and cannot be copied or deleted, such as Vodafone Live! themes and some ringtones.
Speaking of themes, you can also use themes designed for K610, K618 and W810. I recommend searching under the extremely popular W810 category as there are more available. Plenty of W810 themes at http://www.zedge.net
Alot of people will tell you that the V630i camera sux because it lacks Auto Focus. It is poor in low light, but in good lighting and twilight the camera performs well and with some care can produce commendable results. Muhammad Oli (another former V630i owner) won Januarys photo contest with his V630i and my efforts recieved praise too.
Hope this helps! Enjoy your new phone.

Thanks for the quick reply. I'm going to try the freeware you recommended now. Do you know any programmes that allow me to transfer to a different brand of phone? I know this is a SE forum but to be honest I was going to transfer to LG, as this is my first experience with SE and it hasn't been that great.
Do you know if I can lock anything in my phone? for example in my (very) old Motorola (ughh) I could lock my messages and apps etc so you needed a password to access them.
Thanks again |

MyPhoneExplorer can tranfer only between models, I don't know of any programs that tranfers files from to other brands.
As far as I know you can't password protect folders in any phone.
The thing about products is that they have the best User Interface (menu structure), a wide range of free themes thanks to a free Theme Creator software that makes available, lots of compatible freeware like MPE thanks to the SE developer support website, lots of accessories to make your phone more than just a phone, Great camera features, Music features, On board Applications like PhotoDJ and VideoDJ to further enhance your photos and video clips, the best video calling implementation I've ever seen, easy use of Modem functions (which puts my Vodafone USB modem to shame), great overall PC compatibility, and an overall postive experience.
I've had some issues with my phones but then I don't hesitate to make use of the warranty on those occasions.
P.S. you also won't find another Website like Esato decicated to LG, Samsung or Nokia...
