hi all, am new here and i've been reading about all the firmware update stuff.. like Creid, i have a R6H815 customized Singapore.

question: what's the diff if the phone is "unbranded" and why does everyone seem to want to have the generic world 1 version?

thanks.

hi creid, so i guess the advantage of making it unbranded is that you get the updates sooner? but like for the customized singapore, we will still get the updates right? just a tad later though? or would it be a long wait?

The bugs are reduced with every update but even after ten updates there always will be bugs. Sometimes the new firmwares bring new bugs with them so you can generally say that a phone will be never bug free.

..SE have been pretty good at not introducing new bugs, really. And the problems still on the phones tend to be program logic faults - not impossible problems turning up for no reason, and hanging the phone at random.

But the bug- fixes on the smartphones seem to be limited to the separate and supported projects, like the Walkman player, the mediacenter, etc.

The rest - the well documented problems with the basic programs - that they couldn't care less about.

But it still seems like people don't care if they can only watch ten minutes of realmedia before the app hangs and usually force a reboot - that the phone unlocks in your pocket when someone calls you - that the connection priorities are broken if you use more than one connection - that Opera 8 still can only paste in 300 characters into the input fields - that Opera on w960 and p1 is optimized for memory use like on the 64mb phones (i.e, with max 10mb use) - that SE makes symbian software on the UIQ phones that don't actually use UIQ textfields or apis - that there are no profiles, because SE can't be bothered to make one, because it's just so /convenient/ to do it manually.. Things like that. So I guess, who can blame them for not spending any effort on it.. *shrug*

I did consider, briefly, if i should upgrade to the g900. But TBH the p1 meets my needs, i don't have any problems with bugs - nothing that ever stops me using it anyway - I can't remember the last time it crashed.

The opera browser works fine for the occasional web use i put it to, if it doesn't i just use opera mini anyway, i had some setup issues with the wifi but nothing that common sense could fix (for me anyway). The camera (to my untrained eye) takes fantastic pictures, they're wonderfully easy to print out when i want to, and always look great to me.

I'm not a heavy user so i only charge it one a week usually, all in all i'm pretty darned happy with my p1. I doubt i'll upgrade to another SE UIQ tho, i shall probably switch to Android when a decent looking handset comes out for it.

Why is that still no update for G900 Customized Indonesia on SEUS?

I once tried to update using DaVinci, choose the World Generic 1, but no luck. The firmware is still the same (R6H815) but the credit is gone.
