LOL! Exactly my thoughts. When I saw the P5 my heart sank when it looked like one more phone with that odd QW-ER-TY keyboard. I hope they came to their senses and focus on a proper follow-up on the P9xx series! But I admit that the P5 looks really good -- until you slide out that horrid keyboard.
At the moment it looks like Nokia's E71 may be my P990i replacement unless SE pulls their thumbs out of each other's backsides!

Sad news? You actually mean let's rejoice right? P5 is such a disappointment, it could've sealed SE's sink into the abyss for good. I wonder which idiot in SE wasted all their resources developing those crappy prototypes.

That does it... Letting the G900 be the best smartphone and the C950 best regular phone...
I can't get it, what are their plans now??? :S

That's the problem. They didn't even bother to use any resources, all devices manufactured for the past 2+ years have just been the same thing with different makeup and inferior specs if anything.
It looks like SE has finally realized that they actually need to make an effort to come up with a decent device.
At this point I wouldn't think twice if they offered a P990 with 128 MB memory, I could happily live with it for another year. After all the P990 still has the biggest screen, lens cover and proper qwerty keyboard.
P990i: A mistake, a curse and a disgrace So I lowered my expectations and settled for a P1i. I couldn't keep my expectations so low for a long time so now I have an HTC Touch HD |

I think at the moment SonyEricsson's team seem to be struggling someone needs sacking. I love SonyEricsson but the past year or so has been a big let down. |

Man this is shocking!
Imagine the amount of money they wouldve spent developing the p5i. Not good market news
And theyre also phasing out p1i in sep 2008?
So whats going to fill up the gap?
my best bet is the newest phone will be a really revved up, huge touchscreen interface. |

Why are SE so slow at bringing out phones. Also i dont really see that many smartphones from them other companies throw them out so fast ya cant keep up whereas SE take a year just to announce something. |

They probably calculated the loss to be a lot more if they released the p5 and beibei, 'cos not a whole lot of people will be too happy about buying 'rehashed' phones.

I think their top stuff is going to be in the Xperia line now. X1 being top dog at the moment. Perhaps SE is working on a UIQ-Xperia device to be released sometime after the X1. |

Yeah, that keeps the point alive... It would be nice to have xperia-like phone with 5mp camera (or better) running windows mobile...

Simply put, if SE's flag ship is to be a WM, than it would be goodbye SE for me. There's plenty of WM devices to choose from without having to deal with SE's learning curve for a new OS.
SE's strong point is Symbian+touch screen combination, anything else will make them just another vendor.
