My local SE: "Can't upgrade firmware. Phone from abroad"!!!!! |

Hi. I have a T68i which I bought from the US and now I'm using it in Europe. When I took the phone to my local SE dealer to have the firmware upgraded I was told that they can't do it because there is a different firmware for the US and a different firmware for Europe.
Isn't that just a load of bull?!?! How can that be possible. IT'S A FREAKIN' SONY ERICSSON PHONE!!!! Anyways, would appreciate any thoughts on this...
Thanks!

Well, from what I gathered the firmware is "pulled" automatically from a SE server once they connect the phone to a computer... |

yes... the US version of T68i has a different language version than Europe (and there are 4-5 different versions for Europe)... but your local servicepoint have access to all language versions via the EMMA II server... so they can upgrade it... or it can be upgraded with another language version also... |

Hello,
The Upgrade tool is webbased so each ServicePoint is able to download the software that is needed. When the application is run online (this is important) and is started to make the upgrade, the operater is informed that the rightsoftware is waiting to be downloaded. Problem is offcourse you have to convince the person at the servicepoint!!!!
Go for it

The phone wont have any warranty in the UK if it is a US handset
At least I dont think they have international warranty.. If it has then he is talking crap mate!

It is crap what he says m8! What he cannot do is he cannot upgrade to the next US version of the firmware becuase they have each a password or something like that for their regions software, but he can for sure upgrade it to the European firmware and that is definitely not a problem.
Sometimes people cannot think straight so you have to remind him that u want the upgrade, and it doen't matter US or European!
Hope it helps!

Well, the excuse I am given is something along the line of "the system won't accept it!" I know it sounds lame but what can you say to that?! |

SE, as an international company, will have international warranties.
If they say something about the warranty not being valid, he's just a clueless bigot and should be smacked.
Easiest solution is to take your phone to another service point. |
