The Z780 is a few millimeters thicker than the Z770 (presumably for the GPS).

Confused...

Z780 is GPS or AGPS phone? Totally 2 different things.
Z770i already has Google Map so it is not a AGPS phone?
First : K750i, now keep on using W800i & W810i | J230i as 2nd phone | Z300i for Mum | K610i for GF
But won't buy anymore as no amazing phone after W900i (Except Japan SE phone)

Z780 has built-in GPS Receiver with aGPS (assisted-GPS) support.
Z770 has NO built-in GPS Receiver. Google Maps can be used using GSM/3G Network.

Z750 has no GPS built-in.

i think it had....
it was in it's user guide....

there were even instructions on how to position the phone for better GPS reception.
and the GPS antena was on the top right corner.

Nope, the Z750 doesn't feature a GPS. It has the location services, but no GPS. The first with a GPS was the W760.

The z750 does indeed have GPS. The AT&T version - unless a specially built model which I VERY much doubt (I'll get back to this in a few) - has their z750 Grey & Pink with GPS; although its locked by Branded Firmware. Many ppl on Howardforums.com are reporting flashing with DaVinci brings them aGPS (which to me is the SAME thing in a phone).

Lastly, there is a specific YouTube video showing Googlemaps in use WITH the Satellite icon - something I don't see when using it on my SE K850i. W760i on Youtube in testing on announcement day recorded by media sites shows the same gPS icon.

So there is a HUGE amount of confusion here.

Personally, All phones with A-GPS have a GPS chipset to assist in satellites lookup for their position. The only difference is 1) A-GPS/aGPS = allows for maps to be downloaded over the data network, while 2) GPS - allows for maps to be referenced off the memory card and position of your location is STILL using satellites.

So, they decided to use it after all, eh? Didn't realize that, so thanks. Guess you've got your reason why it took so long to launch it then.

I know that it's a part of the hardware, but they've never really publicly promoted the GPS as a part of the phone, so I figured they had deactivated it and pretty much made it useless, which is quite understandable, being that the location software on the Z750 isn't as developed as the one in W760 or non-GPS phones, such as K660 and W890, for that matter. Glad to see I was proven wrong, though.

No worries dude. It wasn't about proving anyone wrong, more like hey there was an update ... however you ARE correct that SE did NOT publicize it and it may have been a corporate decision to disable the hardware ... and most likely provider specific upon request. Thats how I see it to be honest.

However I do think that sales are lactluster and that the Z770 & Z780 will sell a LOT more. They are the most feature rich and best design of ALL their clamshells in my opinion.

Cheers.

PS if any news update on the A200 WiFi Enabler, could you update that thread pls? Thanks

My guess is that the Z750 wasn't accepted by the public, and SE knowing that they'd announce the Z780 later on, made them not say a word about the GPS and disable it.

And no, no word on the WiFi enabler.

Wait a minute... first the function of AGPS(Assisted Global Positioning System) is not just allowing for maps to be downloaded over the data network, it's mainly to assit satellites lookup for your position. But different phones have different functions on AGPS. For example, NOKIA 6110 Navigator AGPS is mainly speed up the look up process by connecting to Nokia AGPS Server; while TOSHIBA 813T (Japanese model) / 908A (Taiwan model) AGPS connects network providers' AGPS server and can independently look up for your position, even when there is no signal for GPS(of course, it is less accurate compare to GPS), so you can get the position information even when you are in the building, just to make sure you can receive network signal.

And back to the topic:
Z780 has AGPS
Z770i just have Google Maps
But for Z750i, we can see it has GPS function and it's really need time to connect satellites. So Z780 is similiar Z750i?

Test Report (in Chinese):
http://mobile.pconline.com.cn/review/0807/1345336.html

But from the report Z780 DOES NOT have a GPS chipset...
http://mobile.pconline.com.cn/review/0807/1345336_2.html

it needs to pug in HGE-100, like K530 and G502...
that means in GPS function it's even worse than Z750 (but better than Z770)?
