Yes, I noticed that when I used mine! However I have heard that 3 have the right to block the phone IMEI from their network if it is a NON 3G phone. Essentially the 3 signal must be coming via another network, I don't know that exact physics behind how it works.
This might be utter rubbish, not looking to damage your sale, but buyer should be aware of this. (Assuming it is correct).

no worries, but i have been using a 3 sim for a long time in the w580i and it works fine except obviously the video call function.

Where was it bought from? Because O2's repair centre are repairing the cracked keys for free as they recognise it's a manufacturers fault.
