I would still class the K850i and many phones as a dual front design even though the marketing term isn't used much any more - at least I haven't seen it.
The dual-front concept certainly began with the T610 and the position of its shutter button - unless I am mistaken - as no other phone was designed to be used in such a way with nearly every mono-block camera phone since having the shutter button in the same position. The marketing and styling began with the K700i.
Here the designer talks briefly about its dual purpose.
I agree with your reasoning, but the actual term "dual fronts" was first applied to the K700, just to be pedantic
As stated in wiki, the T610 was described generically as having two fronts, but the marketing concept of "dual fronts" was as yet unheard of. This was the term I was asking about.
I believe, but can't be sure, that the K750 was also referred to in some marketing as having dual fronts, but I've never heard the term used to describe any model since (yet as you say, many SE models do effectively follow the "dual fronts" concept).
However in my mind, dual fronts means the "back" of the phone must look like the front of a digital camera, and many SE phones with camera's (particularly some Walkmen) don't look like camera's from the back, so can not be described as "dual fronts". The position of the shutter button seems immaterial to me as it's on the side
anyway, here's another question: Who (if any) is the senior partner in the SE relationship, Sony or Ericsson?

It depends where you are.
I remember reading once that in some sites Sony has the upper hand and in others Ericsson, so you're either one of us or with that rotten stinking lot over there - much like here on Esato - and may god have mercy on your soul should you ever jump ship.
The JV is of course 50/50 but which side has the most influence? I guess you'll have to put that one to Dicky - what with him being an ex Sony guy - I think.

hehe, good answer goldenface. Of course the official ownership is 50/50, and that is the answer I was looking for, but as to ACTUALLY has more influence it's a difficult question. Many argue that Sony is, because Sony is a more recognisable brand name. But the fact is Ericsson, while they don't have many end user products, and don't often come to people's mind as a global corporation, but the fact is Ericsson have a massive share of the infrastructure provision for mobile networks around the world, and imho are as big as Sony in their own field.
This to me is what makes the SE brand so strong, the equal share of consumer and infrastructure partnership. SE is not just a handset manufacturing company, it also has (through Ericsson) access to comprehensive network technology and expertise.
