It does look like a 2.8 inch screen, it looks like the measurements are here wrong. It seems the screen has too much information on it to be a 2.4 inch, plus it has to fit in gps etc. 2.8 inch would be much better. Nice phone, reminds of the iPhone with the black colour and silver trim.

Its not 2.8 inches its 2.4 or 2.36 to be precise.

yeah I know its expected to be 2.36 but the devices is designed as if with a 2.8 inch, be a waste if there's not another with a 2.8 inch screen, reducing specs bit of a se thing to do.

Liam, Dora, ... Are they code names? If they are, since when Nokia phones have 'humane' code names??
from my observations, sometimes it's better off not knowing.

Hi all

It is no secret that i consider the E61/E61i to be one of the best Buisness smart phones ever and definitely one of my all time favourites, as nice as this looks the reduction in screen size and Bav it was definitely 2.8" and the keys being that much smaller really are a turn off for me.

Why couldn't they of just left it as it was changed the colour scheme and added these things to the spec and then i would of been really happy, the much smaller screen and keys all to have a smaller device really has ruined it for me. Blast you Nokia when you make something perfect don't try and improve it as it rarely works, a very disappointed and upset Dogmann.

Marc

Mark I MUST disagree with you on the size and screen size of the E61/62's. It was WAY TOO wide, needlessly so ... especially since the default font was TOO small to be readable for those with sorry eyesight.

I've said it before that 2.4-2.6" is the OPTIMAL screen size (in landscape or portrait) for ANY phone to be used in a COMFORTABLE 1 handed use. Look at the varying FONTS on the BlackBerry lineup ... even with a 2.1" screen on the Pearl 8100/8130/8120 its legible ... and these folks read email CONSTANTLY even with glasses. I've NEVER heard of the CURVE being too small, or the keys horrible to type on.

Common ppl ... think with OPEN minds. NO company makes THE BEST device ... but many are BEST in certain fields. RIM is making extremely incredible & consistent sales EACH quarter for 5 qtrs in a row - always BEATING the market (investors/analysts) estimations significantly. They're doing something right, no? Also this is Nokia's MAIN focus ... although main competition is with Windows Mobile Smartphones (Motorola Q9h, Samsung BJ II, HTC Dash/S620, HTC S621, etc).

Keypad button arrangements and size's are ALWAYS different and our perceptions changes with different textures or shapes of the same size ... convex/concave, domed, etc.

When we hold this in our hands when its available, we'll all most likely sing a different tune in favor of it.

Yes Prom1, the phone has to be seen and played with to draw any conclusions.. First live (blurry) pic seemed nice, i like those metal parts and slickness of the phone. The phone also seems to be a bit more rounded than E61i. If typing isn`t too much of a pain on this device i will surely be getting one. And let`s hope Nokia doesn`t price the phone too much due to the "new" form factor.

good point. seems that nokia decidede for rounded style, but to be honest, in a biz fone, i would prefer the old style, no rounds. imo 6233 etc style are way to fancy for a biz fone, th old style looks more solid and "serious"

@Prom1

Of course you are entitled to your view and opinion and it is as valid as anyone else's, but to me the E61 was something quite special and i really loved the form factor. I would of liked to have seen all the improvements minus the GPS and shape change in the same form as the original but that is just what my preference would of been. But as i now have a E90 it doesn't really matter to me as i seriously doubt i will sell my E90 for one.

I may be completely wrong and the general populous may much prefer this slimmer sleeker version but then i can't talk for them only for me. Anyway i would imagine it will be yet another successful E series in Nokia's line up.

Marc

Dogman, thank you. You scoundrel you - in a joking way. lol . you HAVE the coveted E90!? WOW ....

I wanna see a review: Size, portability perceptions, which apps natively work without modifications, etc?

Many ppl DO love the E61, very functional and powerful and quick to get to the keypad. But where the E90 rains supreme is that wide screen; spreadsheets & webbrowsing are incredible on it.

"We gave Nokia's E61 an editor's choice award when we reviewed it at the end of 2006, noting that, at the time, it offered a high-quality smartphone experience in a BlackBerry-esque body. Well, the game has changed quite a bit since 2006 and we're eager to see if the E71 has what it takes to keep up with the Joneses.

From the limited details we have so far, the E71 sounds like it has everything you'd expect -- which is to say -- it has everything. HSDPA (3.6Mbps) Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, Micro SD support, a QWERTY keyboard and a 3.2-megapixel camera. Onboard GPS also assures Nokia is keeping its promise of having GPS in every new device.

We were lucky enough to see a "secret" side-by-side photo of the E71 with its older, bigger brother at this year's 2008 Nokia Showcase, and we were glad to see the newer model is considerably smaller. In fact, if early reports are true, the E71 is only 57mm wide and a svelte 10mm thick. This should make lovers of BlackBerry's Pearl series think twice before their next PDA purchase.

No word yet on pricing but we look forward to seeing the E71 in the CNET labs towards the end of Q2."
