Has anyone managed to update the vodafone firmware? I know you have to wait for the server to bring out an update in firmware but scoured the web and cant see what firmware its running know...

just had brief play with K850 at a roadshow just now. The camera is not that faster than my N95 like claimed. It is faster in startup by 1-2 secs. This advantage will be narrow with N95-8gb as you can leave camera background.
But in-between shots N95 is considerably slower only if you set the "preview" mode to on. If you set the N95 photo "preview" mode to off, then N95 is just a tad slower.
1-2 secs on 4 secs is 50% same with saving.. so that's double the speed...i didn't have any like with turning preview off didn't do much at all... may 1/2 at best..

K850 cam starts up in 2-3 secs and it is not like instantaneous. So it still misses the spur of the moment shots (as in the case of N95). So another sec or two, imo dont make that much difference. In between shots time of K850 is still slow and not much better than N95.
Anyway, I think nobody buys the N95/N95-8Gb just for the cam. Unlike the K850 which only have cam to shout for, the N95-8Gb decisively beat the K850 hands down in all other areas. I dont want to turn this into a fan war. K850 is a great phone but at the price it is selling, it is just a very bad buy compared to N95 and the N95-8G. My only objection to K850 is just the price. |

I agree mib that's why I went with the N95 8gb over the K850. I felt that the K850 camera was of a better quality but that was all. When it came to actually using it day to day as a phone I preferred the N95 8gb. Really didn't like the keys, d pad and touch screen combo on the K850 and for overall features the N95 offers quite a bit more. Also battery life seems very good on it so far too. |

you don't get it... you don't need to justify why the n95 is a better phone in terms of specs... the people here know it..
i'm only talking about the cam speed.. so there's no need to defend the n95 every step of the way.. cause i surely ain't defending the k850i and saying it's the best thing every... cause it's obviously not...

Looks like I will be getting the N95-8GB in the next few days too. Seems like the postal strike kept my K850 from getting back to O2 in a reasonable time, so still have to wait for my PAC number.
What sort of deals did you guys get? I am after a 12 month contract at the minimum price (i.e. I don't care if I have to pay £400 up front if I get a £1pm rental - whatever is the cheapest for the year).
The deals I have found so far are:
Vodafone shop - £35pm + £150 = £570
Vodafone online - £35pm + £150 - £58 Quidco = £512
Phones4U shop - £40pm + £0 = £480
Anyone haggled any more than this (bearing in mind I am a new customer!)

Ive got my eye on that 18mth plan 200 Mins / 500 texts £25 Line Rental
I would love it if it was a tad cheaper though

yes. the older N95 already have motion sensor chip
http://n95blog.com/cool-app-rotateme-on-the-nokia-n95/
N95 already have built-in hardware accelerator and now this software will interface to it and make the N95 like the iphone. Unlike K850/w910 accelerator which only work on certain functions like viewing pictures, this new N95 auto-rotate will work with the whole UI incl web browser!!!.
There is also news that this function is being explore for gaming and other type of apps

I can confirm the accelerometer works like a charm in the 'old' n95 the 'proof of concept' application is mind blowing. Does anyone know how exactly the thing works? I play table tennis and if I move the handset up and down (screen facing upwards) the ball is bouncing just like on a table tennis bat ! I am sure we will hear more of this tech. The cell is so sensitive, it basically can count the steps while I walk/run !
