I had the oportunity to play with N95 a few days ago. It is without doubt very good smartphone. What I really liked is the quality of video and speed of OS, specially message app (new message for example) and contact app.
What I didnt like at all is its built quality. I cant believe how bad it is. It feels like a toy that would be broken if I press it a bit harder. Also the owner reported very poor batery life which I didnt have enough time to test. I hope the new N95 8 gb will improve those things.
As for me I am waiting the new P1 (should get it 15 days ago). Now that I played with N95 I know that no touch screen-qwerty phones are absolutely not for me, but anyway N95 is (without taking built quality and battery life into consideration) a great smartphone.

@koto don't fool yourself. If you want a decent, useful touch screen device, have a look at the HTC lineup The Wm6 OS is gaining momentum in leap and bounds. It will be really interesting to see if Nokia will take any 'action', or just continue 'sitting and waiting' . The Iphone is a 'storm in a teacup' (I don't even bother to mention the failed attempt of SE with their P990i series)

Let's not get ahead of ourselves. We'll know Wm6 is on the right track when we have the first wm- worm knocking out everyone with a messenger. But until then it's just a pr- jippo, yeah?

I found a Sony Style store that had the P1 on disply today! I went to a mall about tem minutes from my place expecting to find a "Nokia Experience" store but it wasn't there (Nokia's site said they had one there too!)! Instead, after looking through the whole mall I found a Sony Style store and had some time to play around with the P1 and all of the other new Walkman phones! The build quality on the P1 is excellent (it felt very solid and well constructed in my hand!)! It's also very small, compared to what I thought it would be in my head after looking at all of the photos online! It's not much bigger than my W850i, nice! I noticed the green tinge everyone's been talking about right away when I turned on the camera on too!... A shame really. Otherwise, I was very impressed! I did notice that it was a bit slow switching apps too. From the main menu I went to the text messages folder, and then back to the main menu. Then I went to the videos folder, and back to the main menu screen. Finally, from the main menu I went to the games folder. They all took a few seconds to switch from the main menu screen, almost like the phone was thinking about it first.... That was a little disappointing too, what with the increase in RAM and faster processor.... Is it really that slow doing everything on a regular basis P1 owners? Anyways, a little bummed about the lack of a Nokia store I made my way towards the exit when I noticed a cellphone shop out of the corner of my eye, and poked my head in. They had both the P1 and old N95 for sale (for about $940 and $1240 USD, respectively! Robbery, I know. they had the P1 on sale for $600 in the Sony store too!) and promptly asked the salesman to take them both out of the sales case, so I could compare them to each other! I have to say, the N95 was shorter and thinner (width wise), but fatter than the P1. The N95 was WAY WAY WAY smaller than I anticipated it would be, and that came as a total surprise! Also of note were how really cheap it felt, like everyone else has said it is (will the forthcoming 8GB version be constructed better?)! Surprising to say the least. Oh, and I noticed that the N95 has no lanyard loop too! What gives Nokia?!? Anyways, I'm definitley feeling the W960 a little more after seeing both the P1 and N95 in person. Oh, and I had a chance to play with this little aluminum triangular stereo speaker set for Walkman's that sounded incredible.... I'm so going to get that too!

I think the point of the extra RAM would be that you don't have to close any applications. The first time you start them they will take a few seconds to open, but after that it should be much faster since they will already be in memory. P1i owners correct me if I am wrong.

About the processor I don't think it is a faster processor. It is the same one SE has used before as far as I know.

@QVGA,

oh i thougt i have missed it, does w960 carry the qwerty keyboard as in p1? gosh, how could i miss it? as far as i'm concerned, the w950 carried the same platform as in m600 as well as p990, but how could the three of them vary in terms of performance? knowing my w950 can manage memory better than my m600? and sadly my p990 performed the worse among all?

both w960 and n95 8gb aint out yet, and do u think it's fair to judge on the n95 8 gb just because it's the same platform found on n95 original?

in my case, nokia has failed with their n91 4 gb with the constant problem of losing data on the hdd, can't be bothered with the 8gb version thoug, as i thought it's just the same hardware only a boost 4gb,so it's interesting to wait and see how this n95 8gb performs, hope they dont make the mistake they did with n91

The N95 8GB isnt HDD its flash memory. Same as the W950, W960, Iphone, ipod touch ect....

I think SE could be in trouble this year and pay the price for not being more innovative. Not only the N95 but the G600 has already shown how poorly the K850 can perform. I can see the N95 8 gb having a similar effect with the W960 in terms of multimedia storage/playback.

Apart from touch screen it supercedes the W960i specs in just about every dept.

@ bavlondon2

GSM Arena just recently had an impromptu "shoot-out" with the K850 vs. the N95. Overall the N95 came out on top in the totals for points in the imaging area. Mind you, the K850 they used was a pre-production model. Does anyone know if the N95 they used was the old one, or one of the newer ones?... They mention in the article that the N95 seemed to have addressed some of its earlier problems with imaging, but they never come out and say outright if it was due to a firmware update or because it is a newer model that they used...

I would imagine that the N95 used in that shoot out would have been a production model. Why would they use a pre production model when its been out for so long. But you can already see the N95 has a longer focal length than the K850 so pics will naturally be better.

yup that is true. SE may be in deep trouble, unless they start inventing something that is on par with NOKIA, but up till now, i am satisfied with SE, all the necessary things i need in a mobile phone, including the quality, is answered by P1i so far, but i start to like the GPS module on my 6110 navigator, it's better than the N95 and E90 i must say. i start thinking and wishing that SE will come up with a good built in GPS the least

I am going to give you the only piece of information that you require in this choice.

P1/P990/W950 returns - ~17%

N95 Returns - ~48%

Could it be that Nokia sells ALOT more N95s than SE has sold/is selling P1/P990/W950/m600 combined? Aren't the P990, W950, M600 and P1i selling for like dirt cheap and, unlike the N95, still not selling very well?

I think Seunlock is refering to the phones they have sold!
I owned a SIM free N95 for two months and wouldnt have one again it is the most overhyped bit of kit I have ever owned.
I have owned the ... T68i T610, P800, P900, P910, P990, W950, P1, W960 But SE have now totally lost the plot.

Which is why they made the N95 8gb.

Its a similar situation with SE. The P1 is effectivley the P990 put right.

I am not sure adding storage will solve the inherent problems the N95 has, The P1 is a development of the Mseries rather than the next generation of the P990

I think youll find it more than just storage. Its also more ram, a better battery life, a bigger screen and better build quaity and of course the new version of maps and a few tweaks to multimedia menus.

And yet you call adding a 3.2mp cameraa, wifi and a few buttons on the side an "evolution" of the mseries?

Apart from a qwerty keypad can you name any feature in which the n95 8gb is surpassed on the P1/W960?
