P1/P990/W950 returns - ~17%

N95 Returns - ~48%

Could it be that Nokia sells ALOT more N95s than SE has sold/is selling P1/P990/W950/m600 combined? Aren't the P990, W950, M600 and P1i selling for like dirt cheap and, unlike the N95, still not selling very well?

WOW! Thanks for all of the feedback! It was pretty fair and balanced, nice. Money really isn't that big of a deal at this point since I know I'll probably be paying an arm and a leg for either one from any importer, so I'll probably wait a while until the price drops and all of the reviews are out before I make my purchase.

Questions:

Do you really HAVE to play games with the jog dial on the P1 like someone mentioned? That sounds awkward....

Does anyone know if you can use the media keys on the N95 to play games?

Doesn't the N95 have an accelorameter too btw?...
Witnessed by the self orienting screen...

Was the build quality really THAT BAD on the original N95?

I had no idea that the N95 had a hissing problem btw...

The N95 doesn't support USB charging?

Thanks again all. I'm still leaning a little towards the W960i at the moment, but I don't feel like I'll have fully made up my mind until I see some reviews on both devices (more specifically what the reviewers have to say about the N95's battery life and Music player). There aren't really any corporate stores for either brand around here in Southern California. Actually, I think there is a Nokia one close by. Maybe I'll check it out to see where it's at, and cruise down (if it's not to far) to get some actual hands on time with the new US N95.... As for the Sony, if it turns out that I don't like the N95's feel (if/when I manage to find one some where) then I'll go that way, providing the reviews are good...

Seems like there are some issues here with the concept of %!

Who cares how many they sold as long as the number is large enough for a proper statistical base. Anyway, I have no idea where these figures come from or how to verify them. But if they are indeed correct then that is very interesting in my opinion. Especially seeing that a lot of the SE returns would surely have been p990i.

@Boris Wait until both phones are available. Atm all is speculation. Don't compare it with the old N95 - you'll just fool yourself that way. The N95-8gig is basicaly a new device which share functions with the old one. Nokia wanted initially to use a different name/number, but after realising the 'bang' n95 made, the name was kept. The 'old' 95 had such a impact on the marked, even the share holders took note of it. Check what happened to the nokia shares after the n95's release. Apparently the nice big screen to device size ratio, gps, videorec/tv output function, combined with a slick case and s60's single handed operation, was Nokia's winning combination. The 8gig updated version should improve all this features even more

Yeah, waiting is what I've been doing, and I imagine I'll be doing it for a little while longer. Don't get me wrong, I don't mind waiting. It's ok with me if early adopters go out and buy it right away, that way I can see all of the problems a device may have online on the forums, before I decide to buy! Like I said earlier, I'll probably wait a month or two before I buy one or the other. Hopefully, by then the price would have dropped sufficiently on both models. Also, hopefully, by then all of the major cellphone reviewers would have had enough quality time with both phones to write their perspective reviews of the handsets, making my decision all the more easier. Whatever the case, I'm sure both phones will turn out to be excellent phones. I can't wait! Now, if Sony would just announce the price of the W960i! I wonder how much Apple's iphone price drop will play into the equation?...

= 17% of A BIT less = Think before writing!

Why don't you get that it doesn't matter how many N95's have been sold, if someone is talking about a percentage which indicates the sales/return ratio ?

The amount is irrelevant, the ratio counts and in this case shows us, that almost half of the N95's have been returned.

@Dextrr
You might wanna dig into your old math book on ratio and percentage. It's quite straight forward without having to put any thought into it, almost half of all N95 owners returned their sets, amount is irrelevant. But just for the sake of argument, if we're talking about amount here, if N95 is sold so much more than all of SE UIQ3 devices combined, it means a heck of an amount has been returned. 17% of the poorly sold UIQs would mean very little was returned. This in fact, is a shocking statistic even to me eventhough returning it never crossed my mind with the service it has done to me

In Dextrr's defence I think he thought the percentage meant that 48% of all total returns were from N95, not that 48% of the N95s were returned.

Anyway, this is an enormous amount. I actually think 17% is a very high number too. As I mentioned before this must be from the p990i returns.

When one person put up some unverified figure of return rate, then all the diehard SE fans take it like it is accurate representation. Let me tell you the real truth. A very reliable source said that the return rate of P1i is actually 60% and N95 is 6%.
