Yes.. if the brain is shut down then how can you experience anything?? its common sense imo but anyone can believe what they want as i said.

Why are there 7 billion of us if we each lasted forever? We wouldn't have any purpose in the afterlife so what would be the point on it existing?

I know we die I am talking about how we go on. Energy never dies the soul goes on that is what I believe. And why do we have this huge huge universe all the space & planets & everything?? There cannot be just us & this one life I just do not believe that Be an awful waste of space I am not talking about an afterlife on earth there is more than enough space in this massive univierse Are you actually saying that when we die all we then have is just nothing,blackness & silence?? That is rubbish imo even that nothing has to be something

This raises an interessting question. What is reality ? When we dream in our sleep we believe that dream to be reality until we wake up and realise it was just a dream Maybe life is that way. That when we die our soul or spirit goes on and we wake up somewhere else

Interesting point. Its also funny how dreams feel so real too. I don't have proof I do not believe its just this and that's it. There must be something else beyond this earth.

Why is it rubbish to say that we experience nothing after death ?
You can't experience anything without your brain that's how it works, if people realized that they would realize how time is important and that life is a gift, instead of thinking that there is an existence after death.
Its common sense

If there is an afterlife, is it just humans? why not pigs or rats? somehow seems less likely

I don't sit around pondering on it all day But Matt you fail to see my point. The body is just the shell. Goodnight I am off to bed

Good question it depends what you call death, they have found different parts of your body shut down at different times during death, your heart stops and you stop breathing but even minutes after death there is still brain activity, the last sense to go is apparently hearing, that's why you shouldn't tell somebody you hated them l along just after they die
Id technically call death the point where you can't experience anything anymore, when the brain completely shuts down and there is no activity, after that point there is less than 'nothingness' you don't even know there is silence, or nothing there, you are gone its as simple as that imo, a lot of people find that hard to accept.

At the same time Matt how do you know you were not here before as something or someone else? Yes we die but nobody knows that its the end and I think we are not meant to know for a reason

I don't believe we have a soul, i can see what you're saying but i can't believe it

@rikken
It's interesting that they have found that brain activity is higher during periods of dreaming than it is when we're awake

Won what?? I got work tomorrow. If you experienced what I did after my mom died about a month afterwards then you would think different but I never mention it for fear of having the piss taken out of me. Night

Won the argument
Nobody would take the piss about that, that's something everyone goes through in life its.inevitable, one day we will all be gone and the planet will eventually return to how it once was without humans
