@jiteshraj..Seems like your m600 has poor ram like the p990 then.Jesus, even the ancient p900 had 16mb ram.Another thing. The n70 and n90 are os8.1 as opposed to 9.1.The n70 can easily run 7 or 8 heavy apps with its 32mb ram.Another thing, all these p990 consumers have every right to be brassed off. After all, se have shit all over them by simply being slap dash and not doing their research, and what's more not releasing any further f/w.Nokia excell here and iron out EVERY SINGLE bug.Rant over.

@jiteshraj, the P990 starts with 14-16RAM max, and in some hours it will go down to around 8mb, even withou using 3rd party apps...looks like memory is leaking to me.
Also, AFAIK, nokia did not yet stop supporting initially troubled Symbian 9.1 phones that are OLDER than the P990/M600, like the n73 and n80

@jiteshraj
There is not much change but there is some change which makes it worst. This is not acceptable. I think I will move towards Windows Mobile 6, HTC or Eten Glofiish. |

........ At the end i'm left with about 15/16mb ram. To test this yourself, open messaging app and check ur free ram. As soon as u receive a new message or an email then the ram drops (this is not a memory leak but how the system works). Now, if u guys weren't so lazy then you'd restart your device every two days and you'll never have a problem with memory. This is not their fualt. It is a fault with symbian os 9.1. Nokia had major problems stabilising their devices (n70,n90 anyone). So stop complaining and get on with your life. My m600i works perfectly. Thank you
Your suggestion for restarting the phone every two days is non-starter. If the SE has advertised As P990 uses a new Symbian OS and UIQ interface demanding more RAM than available in this Sony Ericsson flagship smart phone, your P990 should be restarted every few hours to run it smoothly... then we had the choice. SE advertised it as the best smart phone ever built, almost guaranteeing that each and every owner will be fully satisfied with its performance. Now SE wants us to trust them that it is not their fault because they tried their best, and that they are not responsible for remaining issues with the bugware. Granted that SE tried every thing it could. But if SE accepts the failure and wants to claim that they did not try to deceive consumers on purpose then give us P990's successor either free of charge or subsidize heavily. For us, the phone is still defective and if it is beyond repair then recall it.

SE did not try everything...i know for a fact a OS upgrade was on the table and they choosed not to do it in the end
They also choosed not to bring some P1 features to older phones...this was also on the table
Comercial agenda was put in front of those 2 measures that would please users and make the phone run better
At the same time, introducing new bugs on the last firmware is unnacceptable
I have the email adress of that Niklas Sivander, Head of Product Management, Open OS from SE, the one that made that lame statement, and will soon post it so that all can express your opinion

@ares: but the 6mb of ram used up is not due to any leak, at least not on my m600. Its due to using the actual device. Opening the main menu, task manager, receiving a call, receiving an sms, using internet, etc etc etc use up ram! If i start my m600 at 21.5mb and just leave it there without using it, then it will remain at 21.5mb. Hell even locking the phone uses up a little ram. I get no restarts (coz i manually restart every week) and i dont get any dropped calls. In fact as a phone my m600 beats anything out there. The earpiece is fantastic, the keyboard is great and the speaker is loud on speakerphone. I think we've got to accept the state of the uiq3 phones as is because at the end of the day its the 64mb ram that keeps on hurting us. |

I think its really time to get the sad story of the 990 and SE’s handling of the matter to the wider media. I know that forums like this will put some pressure on them but some articles or publicity for our case in the tech and business pages of national and international newspapers and business magazines might get the message to SE that they can’t treat customers like this and get away with it. |

i never heard nothing like this, even on the M600...but i don´t have one so...
what i can tell you is that the P990 does not behave like that, at all...never did
like i said before, we start at 14-16mb average, and and soon after we can´t get those values again, no matter what we do...some more hours with normal usage, and the maximum RAM will drop to 8-10mb
so please stop the lame excuses

Your explanation does not hold. Memory leakage problem arises when you open and close applications as the memory freed by closed applications are not recovered completely as it should be. It is a serious problem for a multitasking device such as P990. If the phone remains idle without opening and closing applications then there will not be any memory leakage while leakage will be negligible if the applications use very small memory. |

Hi all,
Sorry but to those that say it's OK just look here and see all the things SE claimed it was going to deliver with the P990 on the front page of the P990
http://www.sonyericsson.com/s[....]type=phone&acc_pid=0&pid=10336
P990
The Future of communications is here
A 3G smart phone that lets you leave your PC behind while travelling, yet access everything you need for effective communication. It's all here now.
I think most users feel very cheated as what this device promised it has failed to deliver and now they just say we can't do anymore. Maybe I'm crazy but shouldn't they of realised this was going to happen before they launched these devices and not launched them if things were so bad, what right did SE have to sell a work in progress at top prices and abuse the faith their loyal customers put in them.
That really is the point here people showed great patience and belief in SE by sticking through the hard times and just as they start reaching a reasonable state they get shafted and left out in the cold. How can this possibly be right as IMO it can't and is completely and utterly wrong especially with a product that isn't even a Year old yet.
Marc
