Just installed iTunes 7, all went well. Anyway, iTunes is now used to update the iPods firmware (instead of iPod Updater). So I connected my iPod (5th gen) and I'm told new firmware is available (version 1.2)

iTunes then shows that it is updating the ipod (this goes on for about 3-4 minutes.

iTunes then says it can't update the ipod beacuse of an unknown error 1417

After clicking 'ok' on the above error message, iTunes doesn't show the ipod connected, and I'm unable to get i tunes to recognise the iPod. I have tried going through the above process three times now.

I have tried four of Apple's suggested five R's http://www.apple.com/support/ipod/five_rs/ as I obviously the fifth 'R' ("restore your iPod") is the actual problem.

I just don't know what to do. I would appreciate any input/suggestions

EDIT: fixed it now
