Great tutorial! I was about to buy a new phone, but now I'm glad I found this thread.

I'm a little confused. How much do I need to disassemble my phone? Do I just take the front cover and keypad off? Or do I need to go further and remove the screws?

Is it neccessary to remove the screws in order to remove the dirt?

Thanks!

Well, u dont really have to remove all the screws. First u get the battery cover off. then take the two screws(k750,w800) that holds the front cover off. In case of the k700, u dont have screws. Take a flatbed screwdriver and push those white clips outwards. pls do not break it!!! Be very careful. then u take the front cover off. The keypad will automatically come off as it is not stuck to anything. Thats it!! go no further on the k700. but in case of the k750 u will comeacross the white board which will not come out, instead u can bend it as seen in the pic. http://img161.imageshack.us/img161/6582/dsc02170ng8.jpg Pls be very careful again. u dont wanna bend the wires. The joystick button can be easily removed. Once u get it off u will see what is seen in the pic attached. http://img330.imageshack.us/img330/4609/dsc02015zl5.jpg Then u need to take the spray and attach the small straw to the can. once that is done u point the straw to the corners of the joystick and spray. http://img214.imageshack.us/img214/4732/1sn7.jpg but pls DO NOT spray tooo hard. spray on all the four corners and then give a clockwise and anti-clockwise massage to the joystick. U will NOT be able to see any dust comin off the joystick. Continue the steps for atleast 3 times. Test it n u will see the difference. Again, Pls be very careful when sprayin. Be careful of the LCD. Dont spray too much. Just press half. Do it the way u blow air from ur mouth. i hope u understood.

Actually, if youy are using proper contact cleaner, just spray it full force. Get it in there It won't do any damage. You have to shift the built up crud - a gentle blow won't do it (depending how dirty it is of course).

Yep, actually that's a good philosophy - try gentle at first, get more assertive if it still doesn't fix it.

I'm sorry guys, I live in Toronto, Canada and I just can't find the electronic contact cleaner. I tried homedepot.ca, canadiantire.ca, Rogers/Fido, Future Shop, BestBuy, and no one seems to carry an "electronic contact cleaner". I even tried eBay and couldn't find anything! Very frustrating.

Can anyone provide the actual name or brand name of the product?

Thanks in advance!

Nevermind, I found the product at RadioShack/The Source:

http://www.thesourcecc.com/es[....]egory=Cleaners&product=4408726

I followed the tutorial and my joystick performance hasn't changed. It's been ~3 hours and it's been out in the sun since then. Additionally, my LCD has greyed, hopefully it's temporary.

I think I'm just going to buy a new joystick and joystick switch from eBay.

Brand--ednet
http://www.ednet-ag.com/produkte.html.en
Go to PC cleaning at the bottom of the page. The new page will open and the product is the 4th picture on the website.

I said in my tutorial DON'T SPRAY ON THE LCD!!!
you shouldn't need to leave it in the sun either. The idea is to use something that evaporates straightaway, like within 10 seconds. If there is residue that needed drying in the sun then you used the wrong stuff. That stuff you showed a link for is not going to be good I'm afraid - it contact HEAD cleaner . Hopefully it will be okay, but I'm a little worried on your behalf. The LCD may not take well to that stuff.

these are the type of product you should be using:

Good luck!

I didn't spray on the LCD, I guess the liquid dripped up from the joystick towards the LCD. The grey spots are still there, so I guess it's permanent. It's okay though, it's not that bad, and I'm getting a new phone in a few months anyway. I'll try searching for a different contact cleaner....

i dont have a contact cleaner to clean the joystick of my k700i, i used a zippu brand lighter fluid, i put 2 drops and air blowing it and it works but not 100%.
Each of you should look not only to your own interests, but also to the interests of others All we need now is a little patience
