Hi again,

Just to say my phone came back from the technical center...
The hissing/cracking noise is still there

"This product has been tested according to the manufacturer specifications and no default has been found by the technical department"

So SE specifications are far below my expectations...

I will contact the technical center again to get more informations and then I will continue with SE.

Regards,

Laurent

Hi guys. Thanks for good replies.
Of course I have the same problem with noise with my w800i. If you guys go buy any of the new walkman-models (w300i, w700i, w710i, w850i, w950i etc...), please post a reply if you hear any noise or not. I would really like a walkman-phone with clear sound. Thanks

Hi guys, I just bought a w810i, and just like you, I noticed the poor sound quality and the digital artefacts after 2 minutes playing with it...do you know if the k750i shares the same hardware than the w810i caus' i am thinking about switching while it is still time !!??

I want to cry over this poor audio quality particularly noticable on quiet tracks...what can we do ?

w810i isn't same as k750i, but the w800i IS the same as the k750i...so i'd say...ask someone else whether it's a good idea to switch...but even with my phone (non-walkman branded) se v600i, it has the hiss as soon as you go into the media player sad aint it? :'(

Yeah, in fact, they made it as bad as the hiss we got on K7 players back in the 90's )

its only w800i that gets the hissing sound as its got a different speaker to k750i , the w800i speaker is all clumped up so its bound to hisss and cracle.

dont worry about the hissing noise , if enough w800i users complain theyll fix the firmware issue , and then itll be fixed.

it isnt the hardware its the firmware , because it only starts hissing in r1b00c and r1aco1

Yes but I read somewhere that the "hissing" firmware was released in order to cure some distortion (clicks and pops)...so either way it looks (sounds) bad !! But for sure I want some new firmware...my w810i is 1 day old and its firmware is R4CE012...just for info...
I don't get why people are raving about the sound quality of this phone...I get 2 of them in my hands in 2 days and they both have digital artefacts at the begining and end of tracks AND some anoying background hiss on rather quiet tracks...

Before we go any further... perhaps we should note down which firmwares we all have?

Im very interested in the w810i right now, and currently have a k750i. Now my k750i sounds perfect, no distortion, hissing, is it really a gamble worth taking?

Im only really interested in the walkman media player. My k750i used to have crap quality sound with my old firmware (the original first one) when playing through the hpm-70 (but not cheap fake 3.5mm jack convertors) but now that ive updated to R1BC002 everything sounds perfect. Just my battery life which is lacking, whether thats a (fake) memory card or the firmware... well thats another topic.

W550 and W900 don't have the hissing noise problem. (tested using my siblings' W550 and W900)

It's a firmware-related problem. I didn't have the hissing noise when my W800i still had R1L002 (initial firmware since W800i's release). The hissing began after upgrading my phone's FW to R1NA005, then R1AA008, then to R1BC002.

Oh btw, I still hear clicks and pops when changing tracks. (In Walkman player, try pressing 1-prev track and/or 3-next track a few times, you should hear those.)

I actually haven't seen yet a K750 user complain about hissing noise in the media player (just hissing during calls). Doesn't that make you ask: why is the K750 playing music BETTER than its Walkman counterpart, the W800?

W810 appears to have the hissing noise problem. Check the firmware thread for W810 over the Software forum.

theres only one way to solve this. someone put up a petition about this problem and make every w800i user sign it online.

my k750 has a hissing but only when the volume is really low and you have to have your ear next to the speaker to hear it.
