Bakayo: I feel the same way about children right now in my twenties... don't want them at all! My hobbys are expensive enough and life far too busy to properly raise a family at this time.
Very nice photos... that meal looked tasty as well. Do you have a photo moblog yet? When I got my first camera phone a long time ago I started a moblog, but i have not posted any new content since October 2004 as I decided I needed a 2MP cameraphone to continue... seeing the vivid colors and clarity of your shots is really expediting my desires to acquire that W900. I no longer think I can hold out until February... heh.

Photos look similar to that of the k750i, but the videos, wow, there good. Just a shame its such a big phone. |

Video is reasonably ok, but not that impressive, and to be honest dissapointing to me.
Bitrate is to low for a 320x240 video, it should be atleast
500-600kbit/s, even just to match bits pr. pixel the 200kbit/s of the K750 at 176x144 resolution, but is only 200kbit/s in this video (though Ive seen it go up to 400kbit/s in other videos). With more rapid movement of the camera lots of blocks and artifacts will occur at that bitrate and that resolution.
Audio still use the extremely poor AMR codec at 8000hz/12kbit/s like K700/K750, it sounds terrible, it should be AAC codec at 11025hz/64kbit/s to give reasonably good sound.
All the newer samsungs for instance records 352x288 at 650kbit/s video with 11025hz/64kbit/s AAC audio, much better quality even if fps is less at 20fps. W900 cant even play files of this combined datarate of 714 kbit/s without stuttering if it will even play them at all.
To me its rather dissapointing that the W900 doesnt do better than this, especially considering what others like samsungs that were released before the W900 can do, and considering the W900 has an nvidia accellerator. Its not that big improvement over the K750. Only an increase in resolution and fps. No real increase in videobitrate and no change in sound.
fps isnt everything, in fact its the least important thing in recording or playing good quality video. Going from 20 to 30 fps makes no visable improvement in quality. Bitrates and codecs used does, and resolution does, but only if the bitrates increase exponentially.

I agree the video record bitrate needs to go up and hope to see this in a firmware update. But, it's still an improvement as it is. |

Oh yes, definately an improvement, which is nice to see, and it is an early firmware, with plenty of room for further improvement in future more mature firmwares. Both in terms of recording and in terms of play back.
I didnt mean my post to come out as negatively sounding as it did and Im not so much dissapointed in the recodingimprovements as they are, more in what I would have hoped them to be - if that makes any sence
And also play back is the least part, it doesnt need to be able to play back videos at datarates up to 720kbit/s like I mentioned in my example.
Using a good encoder like Nero recode, you can make astonishing good videos at 320x240, 400-500kbit/s combined datarate. So in that department theres no problem as such. I would be perfectly happy with the W900 for play back. But wouldent mind the recording to be optimised a litle in future firmwares.

exactly... and by the way i have been testing with nero recode 2 and indeed about 400kbps 320x240 is around the max the phone can handle. However on the phone screen that looks crystal clear to me.
If they could update the firmware to get the video recording closer to 300kbps... then WOW would we have a little video device on our hands. Doesn't seem too impossible, either. |

I did a testvideo in nero recode also
could you test it for me and see how it plays ?

Ive seen the W900 record at 400kbits in the prerelease firmwares, so I do expect the future firmwares to improve videorecording |

No, it looks crystal clear, but audio cuts out and then video starts stuttering. It's a little too high bitrate. |

ok - yeah I expected it too be, pushed it to 500kbit/s total datarate to test.
Better just stick to 400kbit/s total datarate for now, atleast untill more comprehensive testing with different encodingtechniques can be done.
Thanks for trying

Yes firmware update for 400kb/sec rate! with AAC audio codec; coming SE!! and make the autofocus able to handle a slightly faster hand movement too pls.
Good job guys already testing the limits allows for good research for SE! |
