This is how the startup screen of HL2E1 looks on my lappy ( it has been reduced 2 800X800 res from the original 1280X800)...ve got some video file through Frap 2.5 full (PM if some 1 wants the 2.5version link  ) of the NFS MW INTRO; HLE1; FEAR XP (extraction point) Demo;Medal of Honour Airborne etc...will upload it after I finish downloading Rouge Trooper (abt 1 GB left  ).

Alan Wake is a new title being released by Microsoft Game Studios....afaik its a simultaneous release for the xbox360/vista..... which means...not before Jan 2007

my lappy's acting up: i get the following msg when i try to view pics as slideshows:
[it says explorer.exe to the left of Application error in the pic above]
and neither does the default "image and fax viewer" open up.
this morning when i switched it on, it dispayed a blue screen and said something abt a critical error:
*** STOP : 0x0000007E(0xC0000005, 0xF78ADFBC, 0xF78ADCB8)
i restarted it and it booted up
open to suggetion on theis issue; should i reformat my hard drive and re-install windows ?
would command.com be causing any problem, as i'd accidentally moved it?

I assume you got sp2 and all new patches.
MS say this.
It might be a corrupted driver. but try running and
and after inserting xp installation disk to dvd/cd drive.
and after a quick google i found this.

@shyam i got sp2, and am downloading that patch now.
should i run those chkdsk commands after inserting the xp disks? |

@shyam downloaded the patch, installed it and rebooted-cant see any changes as i'd seen that "Stop..."error msg on a blue sceen only once.
what about the slideshow and image viewer problem? here's what happens:
1. i goto my pictures
2. i cant see the thumbnails, so i right click->view->thumbnails
3. still nothing happens, only the jpeg logo is shown instead of the thumbnail
4. i try filmstrip instead of thumbnails, but to no avail
5. i double click on a pic, nothing happens-it doesnt open
6. i click on view as slideshow and the error msg (from pic above) pops up
is it better to restore the system to a previous date? will i lose all my files? for ex. pictures, music, and most importantly game saves? |

first thing you do wit a dell is usually a complete format and clean install of windows. i was too lazy, but seems like i got no option either.
make sure u got the cyberlink powerdvd cd (the dvd decoder) if you plan to format else ur dvds wont play.

@niru, it could be an issue with the RAM most likely, unplug it and plug it back again.
contact dell.
this would be an OEM issue, for us.

@ all, i am travelling on 3rd and reaching bangalore on 4th, i heard the strike on 4th is a bad one, perhaps niru, afsaq , killer or debu could shed some more light on this topic.
