You know you sound like a Nokia apologist right there, don't you?
Look, I know you a pro-Nokia as much as I am pro-SE but let's not give these manufacturers a licence to cheat us. Nokia has screwed up the N8 with that processor and arguing that certain manufacturers lag when doing that doesn't help matters, the N8 is more than likely to struggle with web pages and the overall performance will also suffer as a result of the 'weak' processor.
I agree that software optimization plays a role but if the competition has better processors and optimization then where will that leave the N8?
SE tried to get away with this one processor overe and over again and consumers punished them and they changed their game. Now, they have current hardware even though they have an inept software engineering department, though I have to say I give them all the credit on the X10 cause it is very stable.
Nokia needs to wake up! The game has changed a great deal and skimping on hardware is very dangerous!

We'll see how it is in its final FW. Im not apologising for NOKIA, remember how unimpressed i was with the N97? They got what they deserved, people drop it for iPhones, BBs and Androids.
Just because its using an ARM11 doesnt mean it will be slow. Have you used any S60v5 devices with the updated Web7.2 browser? Its unbelievably fast, and if i remember correctly the N97mini proved this in GSMArena's browser test,it rendered pages faster than a 3GS,especialy considering the fact that the Mini had to load Flash content as well.
I do agree that it sux that they went for an ARM11 instead of A8-Cortex, but i mean the ARM11 being used can do HD@30FPS and run the entire UI at 60FPS,surely it cant be that bad? Especialy when its GPU is more powerful than whats in the Snapdragon, I just think this is all being blown out of proportion, even the HTC Legend is using an ARM11 with no problem with the more resource hungry Android with SenseUI,and isnt this the type of device the N8 is against as Symbians are now mid-range?

I know how pissed off you were with Nokia on their below par phones recently. I agree, and as I wrote earlier, the final retail unit will tell us how good or bad the N8 is.
My major gripe is this phone has a lot going for it (er... excepy I'm not happy with S60 touch or what Nokia and SF prefers to call SF^4) but Nokia had to screw it up in the processor department.
This phone is a Satio with a weak processor and a low res screen but with what seems a great camera, HDMI port and not even a standard one but one that needs an adapter and HD recording. Add the Omnia HD it becomes better camera and HDMI ahead. Those are the major advantages of the N8.
Samsung and SE won't have difficulty matching those.
I am looking forward to a Meego device cause I've been reading far better things on that than Symbian.
I don't think the N8 is competition to the Legend, it eats the legend for lunch with ease. Sounds to me like Nokia has too much of the ARM11 surplus that they are trying to use them all and in the wrong way.

Yep,hopefuly we dont end up with another N97,or il be jumping on the Android bandwagon for sure.

I do wish it was a TI OMAP3430, NOKIA's phones based on TI OMAP hardware have always been successful (N82, N93, N95, E90, N900).
This phone is a Satio with a weak processor and a low res screen
Satio uses the same 640x360 res as N8, N8 atleast has an AMOLED so display quality will be excellent, everyone seems to be moving toward AMOLED dispite the poor sunlight legibility.
but with what seems a great camera, HDMI port and not even a standard one but one that needs an adapter and HD recording. Add the Omnia HD it becomes better camera and HDMI ahead. Those are the major advantages of the N8.

Indeed, but i wonder how long it will take SE to release it,and how buggy it will be when they do,as they seem to have difficulty with Symbian in their phones. I can definetly see SAMSUNG making a similar phone with better hardware, but they still have the whole FW update problem, not all regions are well supported, and both SE and SAMSUNG dont seem to care about apps, i think thats where the Nokia will win. Im pretty sure the N97 despite the weak HW out sold the OmniaHD and Satio due to the above.
I am looking forward to a Meego device cause I've been reading far better things on that than Symbian.

Ya,looking forward to what will replace the N900,hopefuly it wont be as much of a brick
Any word on when the 1st MeeGo smartphone will be out? Maybe that will be the N9?

Its all about. . . . ANYTHING lol. What phone are you using? What network are you on? Do you like pie? etc...

Oops, my bad! Confused the X10's screen res with the Satio.
Amoled is not for me for sunlight legibility and unrealistic colour reproduction indoors. Super-Amoled is another proposition altogether, I will get a phone equipped with that screen.
Unfortunately, and as much as I prefer them, SE are bad when it comes to software engineering. I agree that the 'Satio 2' or whatever it will be called is likely to be buggy at first. Who knows though, maybe the X10 is a sign of good things to come cause that is their most stable phone to date! Come now Tsepz, you can't expect SE to outsell Nokia. They are smaller and with limited resources plus given their tainted image it is even worse than two and a half years ago. Only Samsung can attempt coming closer to Nokia in terms of sales. For now, SE needs to sort themselves out which they are doing quite well I must say.
I also hope the next Meego is not a brick as well. Hopefully an E series type. There I go with my wishful thinking!

Oh, the next Meego device is slated for Q3. Did you know there's an E series with a 3'' screen and QWERTY keypad on its way? Sounds like my perfect phone if it was Meego and not S60/Symbian.

What's up man! Long time.
Yeah, that is the only screen currently that'll make me ditch TFT, it is simply awsome from the screen shot on Gsmarena.
I have held AMOLED screens (Omnia HD was one of those) and was never impressed. I just hope that Samsung licences its Super-AMOLED screens to other manufacturers so we can all enjoy its beauty/. I wonder why Sony haven't come up with something similar for mobile devices since they have OLED screens in Tvs.

I just bought my data bundle this morning from Vodacom and I see that they have increased the 1GB to 1,2GB.(R289.00)
Not very generous ol' Vodacom.

Ya, me three got 1.2GB. Stingy VC!!! Could've made it 1.5 at least.
So, we now have a new pay tv provider. I wonder how their programming looks like cause I doubt there was much left for them after Multichoice scooped a lot of the programmes. Their subscription is cheap though.

Just bought another bundle but for my prepaid sim (N81), 75mb for R88 and have got 110mb, doesnt seem bad, what do you guys think?
But agree with you Dups, 1.5GB ATLEAST on the 1GB Bundle would've been good.
How about MTN's R50 a day unlimited data plan? Although apparently if you exceed 150mb in a day your data speed will be cutdown substantialy for that day, it works out to around R1500 per month, seems like a good deal for those of us who do a lot of internet surfing and moderate downloading, any MTN users here on it?

I think 2GB's would have been more to my liking. It is almost R300 we are paying.
