I second the idea that DBPOWERAMP is the best MP3 ripper/converter/format changer..but DBPOWERAMP is not a MP3 editor..! Editor is such that allows you to add your effects such as tranisition/crossade/increase or decrease playback speed etc...!

lame mp3 encoder is just an encoder.

An editor should be able to edit, i.e. cut, add fades, add effects, change volume, change format, etc. dbpoweramp is just a converter.

go for @ThreeX's suggestions - SoundForge or Nero Wave Editor.
