Try to recreate the users by deleting them all worked for me

This might seem like an obvious suggestion but go into control panel->users and try and find setrtigns like "accounts have individual settings" etc...

Cheers nick i've been into that and changed all the account types made no difference tho. I can live with it but i would still like to know why it's happening. Tony

i think, the reason this happening is that the user who changes the wallpaper has Adminastrator Privilleges over windows and when the user has that he changes all user's wallpapers....

@kramer all four user accounts have been administrator level from the start which is nearly 2 years but it's only just started happening !Thanks for your reply anyway. T

Sounds like this could be a group policy problem, but only if you're running XP pro.

Click start, click run then type in gpedit.msc

In the left hand window, left click on the little + sign next to 'Administrative Templates' then click on the + next to 'Active Desktop'.

In the right hand pane, right click on 'Active Desktop Wallpaper' and then left click on 'properties' in the pop-up menu. Make sure that it's set to 'not configured'.

thanks cycovision but i'm actually using xp home so i assume this fix will not apply. looks a bit scary to me, i'd probably end up making it worse. cheers Tony
