ok so i put my ipod in its dock to dl some songs onto it and when i plugged it in it said ipod updater available so i clicked on it and it came up and said attach the ipod to a plug outlat to flash it (new firmware i guess)
my ipod is usa one so i didnt have an adapter so i finished work and bought one and plugged the ipod in and nothing
it just displays a picture of a plug going into a socket
pleaseeeeeeeee help what do i do is my ipod dead forever
i tried attaching it via usb to my laptop and nothing happens ie itunes doesnt load

did you try resetting it?
press the lock switch on then off, then hold play and the menu button together for a few seconds til it resets.
Otherwise, wait for the battery to drain then charge it.

There's a well documented bug in the latest ipod update, apparently apple are working on it.
The only thing that has worked for some people is to use the Disk Utility to reformat the iPod.
The only other thing to try is this:

If that doesn't work, they've been taking them back to the shop which in your case presents a bit of a problem

i tried the toggle the hold switch and press the menu and select thing and the apple logo appeared then the stupid plug picture appeared
absolutely nothing worked so i tried the firewire cable
and it came alive
what i scare i had
it is typical i try everything and nothing then try one last thing as a last resort and it works
feeeeeeeeeeewwwww

bet u feel the best now, i broke my ipod earlier this week, was upgrading the HD, and it gae me the stupid folder icon ,
this normally means you need a new HD.
after a couple of full hours playing about i finally got it up and running, one of the best days of my life.
