Hi folks! I think i'm in big trouble. I formatted my phone (ngage) yesterday and when it restarted, it asked me for the mmc pass. I entered the correct pass but it says incorrect pass!! I'm 100% sure i entered the correct pass! Is my mmc gone forever?

Put your mmc into any mmc compatible phone and use a file explorer program such as (fexplorer, seleq, etc) and go to c:\system and look for a file called mmcstore. rename that to mmcstore.txt and open it. you password will be in that file.
Hope that helps

Been there. Done that! I tried that too! Didn't find the mmcstore file there! Is there any way to unlock an mmc if one forgets the pass or some kinda error creeps in? My friend says my mmc is useless now!

It is a common fault , did you master reset the phone at all ?
Can't see why you couldn't find the file to view , thats weird ??
I did it on my 6600 but got it working the above way...
I know no other way matey , loads of ppl have done this and the mmc ended up in the bin

Thanks i'll try. Would a card reader be of any help?

Posted by TheWhizz_68
You could try formatting the mmc in a pc with a card reader but the mmc password is usually stored in the phones memory c: drive.

If you want to you can also reset the ngage and see if that gets rid of password *#7370# not sure if it will work but maybe worth a go.

or a hard format

Turn off phone , Remove SIM card And MMC card.

Press and hold (3 , * , CallButton(green dial key) whilst turning your device on while still pressing the above buttons.

You should now see the word "Formatting .." on the Screen! Let go of the keys now

Before doing any of the above operations , you will lose all settings ect....

Hmmm....I'm confused! Looks like my money went down the drain. Thanks for your help. I'll try that hard reset. Btw, whats the differenc between pressing *7370* and the hard reset you mentioned? So you have come across people with ruined mmcs?

Posted by TheWhizz_68
The *#7370# is just restoring factory defaults.

the other way is formatting the phone system , maybe your best bet ...

Let me know how you get on.

Posted by whizkidd
So what will be my phone like after the format? It won't damage the phone right? I'm new to nokia so i'm confused. Anyway, i'll be trying an mmc card reader at a friends place tomorrow. Lets see what develops. I'll keep you posted! Thanks once again!

Posted by TheWhizz_68
It will not damage your phone matey , make sure it's got full battery charge though. It will be like you have just bought it brand new

Ok...I'm on my phone right now. So i can't access full html sites. I have opera and netfront ....but its in the damned mmc! I'll check out the link you gave later. But can you tell me whether you've and across ruined mmcs?

Posted by TheWhizz_68
Yes i have seen quite a few mmc's gone to an early grave due to this problem, some have been recovered via the method above..

Posted by whizkidd
Ok...And do you think a card reader would be of any help?

Posted by mrao
dunno...but under the given circumstances..its worth a try

Posted by whizkidd
Looks like my 1000 bucks has gone down the drain. . I'll try the format when its fully charged...

How come the mmc has a password in the beginning? CF and MS cards don't....

Posted by whizkidd
Update:
I came across this thing when searching for locked mmc's on Google..
What do you folks think....?
MMC unlocker
Its called the JAF mmc cable.
Will it be of any use?

I still have the old mmc at my friends place.

Posted by mrao
The JAF MMC cable is useless without a JAF box... Its a kind of flashing device for Nokias....so tough luck Unless you manage to find the complete set

Posted by whizkidd
That i know....but can't we find someone who has this jaf box..??
Ray of hope....??

Im positive there are people in HP who have this apparatus....I remember vin had said once that he had found someone in HP who could perfor the p900 to p910 upgrade for 2.5k
