Hi, I am from Nigeria, and let's talk real issues here please!

Posted by OluYom
We have 4 GSM carriers in Nigeria, namely:
1. Vmobile - 2G >1.5million subscribers
2. MTN - 2G >2.5 million subscribers
3. Mtel - 2g >0.7million subscribers
4. GloMobile - 2.5G >1.8 million subscribers (by the way, Glo launched just last year August, and GSM services have been available since 2001).

As noted above, only GloMobile runs GPRS technology. The service works well, with WAP and MMS. But you cant dial-in to an Internet account, something you can do on both MTN and Vmobile. MTel? Search me!

As for phones, we've got about every phone model in the world. Only problem is, Nigerians prefer to show off with them rather than put them to any real use, lol

Anybody still visit this place? :0

@aya thx. Where do u live in nigeria?

Posted by OluYom
Ojodu, a suburb of Lagos. Lagos was our capital city until a move to Abuja some years ago. But it has remained our country's commercial/industrial nerve centre.

Posted by BobaFett
Which fones are the hits there today and how are the prices?

Posted by areaboy
Olaleke taiwo, Aina or Morgan?

Posted by Demmy
@bobafett - There are as many fone models in nigeria as there'er productions. The only snag is dt d functions may not b maximised.

Posted by BobaFett
What about t630? Is it a liked one?

Hits include, t100,t230,t68i,z600,p800/900.As 4 prices, will have 2 check on d curent prices but dont know if aya wil know bout curent prices.

Posted by OluYom
obafett: t68i costs about N16k now. my lil sister just got a t630 for N29k, but that is not a rave phone here. z200 seems to be catching better (about N20k). generally, nokias & samsungs are fashionable here with generally provocative prices.

Posted by Demmy
True 4 nokia phones especially.

Posted by BobaFett
How much is that in usd?

Posted by OluYom
Areaboy: I stay at Unity estate. How about you? Demmy: Yes, not much functions being used but its really due to ignorance. I have my bible on my p800, upload websites via ftp with it as well, access my mails 24/7 etc. There's much one can do with a will ...and some cash :)

Posted by Demmy
@bobafett, just divide each of d prices by 145.That's d xchange rate

Posted by OluYom
Demmy: know anyone who uses Mtel? I have run tests (WAP, email & data/fax) on all networks except that one. Anyone with info on Mtel pls post. Thanks.

Posted by BobaFett
@demmy thx

Posted by Demmy
A friend of mine does with nokia 3650,but i cant give much info on dt network.

Posted by OluYom
Demmy: Thnx. Still on d lookout 4 info. Say, anyone interested in sharing mms content? No indecent stuff pls. I have lots to share, but b ready to send some my way too.

Hey! Nigerian thread! Here's wishing good luck from the SE India Forum! :-D

Posted by OluYom
Whizkidd: Thanks for visiting. Will remember to check out your forums.

Posted by areaboy
I need some candid advise ere. Not because we r on a SE site that there should b a reason 4 bias. I'm presently on 3650, & wish 2 move up. Truthfully dt wat i've been doing since Gsm's inceptñ i started with SE T20 for N30k in 2001, i bcame disappointed with dt SE wen a got a Sam R 220, i went back briefly to SE J70 then to 6210, 8210, now 3650 & i love her. She's got alot bluetooth, camera, html capability, modem, memory card etc.
d question: should i go 4 a 6600 or 9210i (Communicator)? Your advise should come with d fone's features.

Posted by OluYom
9210i is out! No GPRS, no camera. If u want 2 step up & stay with nokia, 9500 is d thing. GPRS, bluetooth, camera, video...everything!

Posted by deeone
Go naija!!!! deeone saying congratulations.

Posted by OluYom
I am looking for a midi or (preferably) WAV ringtone of Shhaggy's 'Angel'.

Posted by deeone
Aya hope you get wot you're looking for.
