Annoying misuse of Smilies

hi. time for a rant about these people (you know who you are) who reply to posts with endless smilies and no actual reply. WHAT IS THE POINT??? the joke thread is the worst after every joke there are half a dozen posts with that STUPID animated laughing smiley. WHY??? if all these were deleted out of the hundreds of replys in that thread there would only be 20 left! please Laffen either stop smilies altogether or limit it to 1 per post as long as there is a proper reply as well. When i had my t300 i used to go mad because it would take ages to load all of them and it wouldnt always let me go to the next post. Well i feel better now! (and i do know someone is going to reply to this with a dozen smilies).

While i am here i seem to remember a post about not being able to stay logged in on a p800. i know you are a busy man Laffen, but i was just wondering if that is being worked on because thats stressing me too!

I do agree with your opinion, its the reason that i stopped using smilies, lasts ages to wait sometimes to see a post. BUT they way u spoke to members doesnt show good behavour imho.

I love smilies, however I use them sparingly.

Smilies are great, as long as they are used sensibly and they fit in with what you are saying.

I rather smile than argue...:-D dont you?

Posted by BobaFett
But its sometimes really boring to wait on wap cos many smilies are in a post. Of course its a minor problem, but based on a true fact.

Posted by kr4nc
Well i havent got that problem. Its not bothering me, afterall there isnt so many post with that many smilies. But i would rather just one:-D also

Smilies never load on my was so it doesn't really HAVE to be a problem imho. I gotta say that personally I an much more annoyed by the use of certain words, 'idiots' included, than by the use of smilies. Smilies CAN be a great way to enhance ones text, however I gotta say not everybody seems to know what each smilie means and a seemingly joking text full of the  smilie may well be taken offensively ;-)All in all, I do not feel they are an issue. So my suggestion to you is to relax ;-)

You can sometimes stop a page from loading.

Is that so.....

So how long did that take to download on your phone?

(Edit: A totally unnessecary amount of 's removed)

@themarques

I've removed 98(!) of your smilies from your previous post here.
It actually caused my K700 to crash on Esato Light.

A totally unnessecary removal, I was trying to conduct an important experiment.

Result on wap: this page is too large to be sent back.

Like most anything that is free, it tends to get abused. I suggest that you politely but firmly remind those members who are notoriously overdo it to keep them at the minimum level.

(Some don't even post a word, just a smilie or an image.)

Sometimes an image really does say word than a thousand words even if it's a smilie. However the Smilies are there to enhance written text, not replace it altogether

Smilies used in moderation are fine - I generally use no more than two or three, and sometimes none!

If it bothers you too much on wap, turn off images, which is what I do. It will keep your GPRS bill down too!

btw, I have a similar problem to you with continuously having to log in on my P800 - I'll log in, look at my PMs, then go to look at my bookmarked topics - and it asks me to log in again, even though I only did it two minutes ago! It will often ask me again and again when posting a reply, checking PMs again, etc. Any help there would be appreciated by me as well!

I wouldn't have thought that this was a huge problem, although I can see why people would find it annoying on WAP. The most anoying aspect of smileys for myself is when they are used as a reply in and of themselves.

Greetings! I thought you were on hols?

As for smilies, well.... I just love 'em

This log in problem is on html lite, correct?

Posted by Jake Blues
@vlam dunno bout html lite but i go through mobile.esato.com, is that the same thing?
also what is this bbcode option when u post a reply?

Posted by Sammy_boy
My problem's HTML lite (I think!)

Posted by BobaFett
Smily is disabled in my preferences, but still viewable on wap wml. Seems to be effective only on web and/or html light on wap.

Posted by Vlammetje
@Nature, yes mobile.esato.com is html lite :-)

I agree/disagree...

Smilies are somewhat of a necessity because a lot of emotion is lost over the internet...If someone makes a joke with no smilies, it may give the wrong impression...smilies make you understand its JUST a joke

On the other hand, I understand the purpose of this thread without also naming any names lol...

Like a slogan here against alcohol abuse says : "Moderation has much better taste!"

Posted by BobaFett
The best solution would be a feature to disable on wap aswell and ebody would be happy.

Talking about the meaning of smilies, dosen't this smilely means sarcasm or that what said is sarcastically? I just want to be sure. Thanks
