Theres this gradient look that websites have these days. Probably helped by the phpbb2 themes... i really dont think its upto much.

I have a lot of things going on almost all the time.

the banner itself was intentionally made to be very simply, so that a light gradient of the phones could be included or anything else for that matter.
The image is only 7 kb and that is at max res.
Reducing it to Medium (which doesn't show any difference) brings it down to 2 kb. The current banner is 5kb.
Of course a redesign is never a priority when it comes to a quality site, that's why I created it without anyone asking me to.
I hope that answered most of the questions.

The side bar could be left the same and a gradient to the top of it moving from dark to light would look good too.

@Superluminova's update is more allong the right lines to me - I like the way the existing one says ericsson phones but it is now kinda outdated, some sonyericsson key designs overlayed onto it would be better... And to be honest I don ike the chosen font.
Thats just my thoughts. (I really could not do better.)

lol ok i'll repeat this again.
The original banner was made INTENTIONALLY to be simple and a bit 'blank'. That way, it could then be editted easily to include overlays and changes.

I must say that I agree that Esato could use a dash of paint and a nice shiny bow tied around it, but one must make sure that any design change doesn't make the site look tacky.
I think that a slightly darker colour scheme for Esato would be rather fetching, but not too dark, just a tad darker than it is at the moment. The Esato logo could definitely with a change, it has a 1980's look to it, at the moment, in my opinion.
I have just noticed something that I hadn't spotted before; one of the phones on the current Esato banner is a Nokia!
At any rate, this is all just pie in the sky, as laffen is snowed under with other jobs at the moment.
