Wouldnt it be great if 2 or more in close by rooms can voice chat via T68x Bluetooth or headsets. some sort of an internal call not using the GSM network, could it be done?

Posted by x-daemon
Sounds possible to me; by using a 3sd party bluetooth base station like airport (Apple)

That would be absolutely GR8! (If I were you I would get a patent on that idea, before someone else does!!!)

Cheers

Too late! I'm doing it first!

Yes, that would be great, especially when talking with friends when they are not too far from you, beats using up minutes.

Well, what about an internall SMS system via Bluetooth, for instance when you're sitting in class or something....

Posted by lembeee
Here u go, Ideas are poping up all over the place, LIKE THE SMS one yet I think the chat would work better, SMSs needs access to a service center number
Cheers

Yes this can be done! Pair the phones in a scatternet & pair the headsets in a piconet! Voilà, on ericssons website, a tutorial had this with a base station that could take cell calls in progress & transfer them 2 ur landline phone!

Actually, there's a way to "chat" with bluetooth.
It's called bluejacking, and it's not illegal.
How to bluejack:
Create a new contact, and in the name-field, you write your message and then you save it. No need to write in the other fields! Click on send contact , send with bluetooth and then the phone searches for other devices. Choose the phone and send it, the message will appear on the screen on the other phone. The only necessary is that the other phone has its bluetooth switched on.

Wow bluejacking! What is it? Ban you imagine the speed of this kind of com. It would take ages to say few sentences...

well this is a very old thread suddenly given new life but lets not forget our main bluejacking story thread

I did something naughty today!

erm...yeah...the sms idea is good...but there are easier and more practical ways of sending text messages to people...
Just write a note and send it via bluetooth, with somebody that you have added to your bluetooth places.

would be nice if i could use my z600 as a bluetooth headset for my pc, then i could listen to music on it

There is a few bluetooth programmes for series60 that work ok. Maybe some1 will write a java app for k700

Along the same lines, when we are doing exams, all the students activate their bluetooth if we are allowed mobile phones in for that exam and then voila, send and receive answers like anything (using jotter or another application to send text with bluetooth). I know its not a good habit.

This is quite stupid: Interhuman relations to be replaced by a 15 metters technology... Who on earth would choose a headset instead of live talking with someone not far away than at most15. However, text messages would be fun, cheating during test papers. :-)

100 m bt would be appropriate for this purpose. Just for com. between neighbours for example. Or WiFi...

hi

with the help of bluetooth devices u can talk with anybody for free depending upon the range usually it have a 10 meter range so u can talk freely within 10 meters as well as u can send a sms for which we dont need any device

Posted by zainahmed
we can also play games with the help of blutooth

Posted by Andrew21
If is anybody 10m away from you, you can go there and talk with him. I think is better than via bt

Hey what about our operators? Everything has two stories and this case too. First - no problem technical , second - problem of losing
money for gsm providers if the range of the talking was 100 m or more.
Thats a reason why producers dont implement wifi to our fones.

Posted by Atlis
@boto - n+++a 9500 has WiFi, S700 will have 100 m bt, some producers offer 100 m bt dongles... ;-)

It would be great to chat over bt.

pls check this again- www.nokia.com- if n 9500 is mobile fone.I spoke
about the mobile fones.N 9500 is almost like a PDA f.e. Toshiba 750 WIFI with gsm and gprs modul.

@boto - ok, as you wish, what is S700 than? Almost camera? C'mon. It's possible and appropriate for chat or any other kind of object or whatever transfer between neighbours without need of using providers service.

@ lembee

A lot of good points have been raised in this discussion, I think the answer to your question is quite simple :

1. The technology is there, so it CAN be done.

2. Once you've done it, find a manufacturer who will want to launch it.

This last point was also raised and the chances that an operator would market a phone with less profit possibility would be pretty slim.

Profit is still goal 1 for any business, so I wouldn't count on seeing that.

The only alternative would be to simply market your own software and make it compatible for phones running off an OS, like the Pxxx...

You are particulary right, but it doesn't have to be only for P series. Phones with MIDP 2.0 can operate with bluetooth, so simple Java applet+would be enough. But 10 m range isn't enough. Maybe only for students...

using bluejacking to chat is just inappropiate as it will tkae sooo much time.
but there is a prgram for symbian phones to talk of chat over bluetooth.only can't remeber what it's called, i stumbled across it when browsing but i didn't download it coz i don;t know anyone with a sybian bluetooth phone
(i'm not sure if you had to pay for it)

Can someone list which all phones have bluetooth 1.2 ,ie the 100m bluetooth:-)

Posted by Atlis
S700 only

Posted by sn3ipen
z1010 do also have long range BT. So far there is only se phones that have this.

Posted by milmino
It would be kind of useless for there only to be few phones with long range bt ( unless there is a possibility to send files or maybe reciee them from a s700 to a 10m :bt: handset or headset) is this possible?

Posted by Atlis
Dunno, never tried this, but 1.1 was a privilege of few and now its a common feature... so no problem...

This is my first post here so please be nice. I was just thinking.. you can play java games multiplayer via bluetooth or IR right? So why don't one of you programming buffs write a simple chat applet in java and make it have "multiplayer" functionallity... Wouldn't that work? It works in the internet for normal computers with java. I am not a programmer so I am not really sure.... Just a thought.

Is it possible to design something like a repeater base station ( used in amplifying radio signals) that receives signals from a 10 m bluetooth phone and amplifies them over a range of 100 m ?
