What is it?

Posted by blue8300
A T9 software...??? that's predictive text input
You type a letter of 2 and the phone write the rest of the word (if you want)
But the beta/trial version is only in english, other languages will be available for the full commercial version

Posted by masseur
Actually looking at the HTML manual it doesn't appear to be T9 at all.

T9 is the input method where you use the dialling keypad to enter the words using the characters shown on each digit and T9 tries to work out the word you are typing from the digit combinations. T9 stops you having to press the same digit several times (multitap) in order to enter the letter you want that is represented by that digit.

As yet I have not seen T9 that is predictive.

What this new product seems to be is a full text keyboard which predicts the full word from the first few characters you enter in much the same way that it works on the ipaq

T9 and predictive text are 2 quite separate things.

I knew what T9 is, but i was surprised the P900 didn't already have this feature.. hence my post. So i guess it's predictive text, as masseur so eloquently putted it, and not 'just' T9...

I think you are confussing there.. the P900 has it, not the P800.

And like you pointed masseur, it's even much more powerfull then a simple T9 who use the keypad, this one you can use the real features and capacity of the P800 : without flip or with flip open , and all that with the virtual keyboard ! Now it will be even more easy to write a long text or email !

I think the point I was making is that this is not T9 at all so your thread title is misleading and should be changed to something about predictive text input.

Posted by blue8300
ok..!! I changed the titel ! better? happy???

Posted by MaThIbUs
yeah

Posted by masseur
No need to get attitude. Yes that is better. Am I happy? yes, but not because of this!

I only made the comment to avoid dissapointment (again) when people see the thread title and get excited only to find out it this nothing whatsoever to do with T9 because people have been wanting T9 on P800 since before the P800 was released.

I just did some research...and :
In fact you were wrong, T9 is actually a product of Tegic Communications. T9 is just a trade name for software that allows predicitve text input...using a keyboard or other devices
Go to www.t9.com and you will see that is also availble for product like PocketPc what means not using a keypad...

From t9.com : "T9 Sloppy Type for Pocket PCs. Sloppy Type is the next generation of text input for touch screen devices. It combines the ease and familiarity of typing on a soft QWERTY keyboard with the power of T9’s predictive/adaptive text input, along with the capability of handling sloppy or haphazard touches to the keyboard."

Can SE Service Centres install t9 on P800s? Anyone ever tried?

Posted by MaThIbUs
If there's a firmware version with the T9 feature, but there isn't...

Posted by masseur
lol! now you are grasping at straws just to try and prove me wrong. Of course I know who developed T9 as I have done several relevant contracts in the telecommunications industry and have had contact with tegic in relation to some work I did at cable and wireless.

I really didn't want to get into an argument and I am not sure why you do but picking a recent side product from tegic for pocketpc that is not even available yet and making an issue that because that exists T9 includes keyboard input is a very flimsy argument.

Everyone knows that T9 is exactly what I described in my first reply here and it is precicely that T9 which everyone wants in the P800. The fact that the same company wants to branch out and make a new product which really has no relation to the original T9 as implemented in hundreds of mobile phones has nothing to do with this argument, and of course they are going to include T9 in the name because thats what they are known for and its what they are famous for so people will instantly recognise it, but it is purely marketing.

Looking at their website this T9 sloppy type gets a brief mention while everything else about the site is to do with T9 as it is generally understood, including all the demos in all the languages available.

As a side note, T9 sloppy type is very much like the microsoft word facility called auto correct where you can enter words that you regularly miss spell and it corrects them for you and with the small virtual keyboard on the ipaq that might be worth closer inspection.

Anyway, lets just agree to disagree rather than continuing this as I am not the argumentative type really (to friendly for that!). Instead... let other people decide with replies here if it is really important to you.

edit: xtokiyax, no, T9 is not available in firmware for P800

I am happy you just give me right ! lolll
That new T9 product will be much more powerfull there it not only use the small capability of of keypad but the much easyer and advanced possibility of a (virtual) keypad...

And like i said, you prove me also right that T9 is not a term used for predective text ONLY on keyboard, it 's just a Tradename for 1 specific application from 1 specific firm...

Everyone?? just for you to know that SE said 60% of average P800 user don't have the flip on it...
It's then only 40% from the people who COULD be interrested in such a only keypad T9, and of that part, i wich to know who still write something with the keypad! loll 2%??

I have my flip and since 3 years (R380s) i never used the keypad to write something.. it 's soooo much easyer to use the virtual keyboard or the handwrittting. In fact that new product is the real one i expected!
If the P900 doesn't have that possibilty, then it is useless for the most of the users

I love this new application now lets hope that it is also going to be availible with handwriting instead of the keyboard.and A Dutch language would be even better.

Tried this predictive text app - works really well. Has anyone seen any information on how to add words that are not in the apps dictionary? May be this will come in the next release.

hmm but the virtual keybord suck if your walking som driving a car or hold papers, it would be good if you can wright singel handed for short sms

Posted by Dazultra2000
Predictive text with buttons is way faster, and that's why I want it. It's less frustrating also than having to repeatedly scribble letters

it's forbidden to use a phone in a car without carkit, don't even speak about writing an sms while riding ! the guy doing that just a murderer on the road...
BTW 60% of people use the P800 whitout flip...

Are you serious? do you really still use the keypad to write sms or mails???
This was good in de jurassic time of the gsm (aka Nokia time loll) with the P800 you have a phone from the present and even the future, use it for what he is make : using the touchscreen

Posted by herc
stop this stupid discussion. come back to the software !

ive tested it - and it works WONDERFULL ! just the thing i wished pjotter would be. everyone sould test it !
lets hope that the software will not be too expensive ! especially because sony SHOULD have included this software from the beginning of p800 delivery. or better sould pay the company such that all p800 owners can get this soft for free. why ? because the p800 is one of the most expensive pieces of hardware i think most of us have ever bought

Posted by lulu ginzburg
Not really.... lolll
The P800 cost now 550€ and they are a lot of phone who are more expensive
And my R380s was approximativly at the same price in the past (700€)... a normal price for a top device

Posted by fijbert
kinda useless if u ask me
I mean, the P800's life span is in the counts
there wont be any support for P800 anymore
it's not even produced

SE seems to be refusing to fix my P800
it's been 3 weeks they hv it, and not a word from them
sorry to say
no use in investing in P800 stuff

Posted by lulu ginzburg
sure.... like we all gonna buy a P900 and between now and 10 mounth buy the real new phone the Pxx
I will stay with my P800 till something really new comes out, no only a small facelifting
And this is better then what the P900 has to offer, much more powerfull !

Posted by jpaul_martinez
do you think P900 apps will fully work with the P800? or only selected ones due to harware differences?

Posted by fijbert
I agree it's a nice feature
unfortunnately that application might not work on the P900 due to it replacing the actual virtual keyboard
maybe incompatible with UIQ2.1

then again, this is just an assumption

I have just read all this on my t610 just to find out it is false econ

Ok, after reading all this, it boils down to one question:

Is there a place where we can download the predictive text input software for the P800? YES or NO - if yes, what is the website?

read the topic again

You know, I only use mine without the flip cuz I have no choice, the flip is broke....

Ok.. you think you be faster pushing 3 times on a button to get a "c" when i just have to push one letter on a virtual keyboard?
Without speaking about things like !?;:/=+~*$£µ%ù()àç!è'"é&@#€&& etc... lollll FOOOL !!!! Come on be realistic lollllllll

That new software is much powerfull then a T9 on keypad! It's a T9 with virtual keyboard.... It works the same didn't you noticed, or didn't you even take a look about how it works???

Using a keypad to write a something with a P800 is going back in time and not using his real capacity.... (and i am sure a lot of user you be better using a T610 then using maximum 20% of the capacity of the P800, like most do i think...)

Posted by xtokiyax
Lol okay haha matter of preference

I mean for me, the stylus really isn't it. I can't tap tap properly, it's a hassle.
On the keypad, I hardly need to look where I'm pressing, I just press press and feel my way round the keypad. It's much mroe comfortable. To me at least

Posted by blue8300
Easyer for you maybe.. that's true

But faster? lolll NEVER !!
Think..to write "$50 for a T9 Text input"
How much time wil you have to push on your "silly" keypad buttons? loll
I have and big screen before me, all the facility of a keyboard and i will need to push only in total 27 times.. i think you will be arround 4 times that at least. (please do the test, i would like to know)
I also can copy paste...

I am not using the keypad for 3 years there i was used to a virtual keyboard on my R380s...

Explanation about that software ! And please pay attention about the fact that this can be used not only for SMS !! But also for all the master applications and features of the P800
"eZiTap FEP by Zi Corporation dramatically reduces the time it takes for you to complete text entry on the virtual keyboard of your phone. As you type with the stylus, eZiTap searches the built-in English dictionary and predicts what word you are typing before you complete it. Rather than typing the rest of the word yourself, simply select one of eZiTap's suggestions and move on. The more you use it, the smarter eZiTap becomes. It learns what words you type and will then predict those words next time you type them. This is especially useful for names, slang, acronyms or any other unique words you may use. eZiTap is not just for SMS, it can be used to enter text in virtually any application, including the Calendar, Tasks, E-mail and Mobile Internet input fields"

nb: do you only write sms maybe? never a email , or a text, or descriptin/appointement?

EDIT:
"Is English the only language the product supports?"

"Currently, English is the only language the eZiTap FEP supports in the free trial version. For information on language availability on the full version for purchasing, please check back for announcements or subscribe to Zi News for automatic updates on product developments."

Wow it works as a treat. this was the application I was looking for its so much easier than the t9 and especially in my case since I write sms in my language using english alphabets the T9 was of no help (because it can't guess the word I am looking for since its not in english dictionary) what so ever but this solves the whole problem as this software remembers the words I write usually and picks it up even though its not in the standard english dictionary. I hope I made some sense and at least some of you had understood what I meant.

@p800er
Did you gave a proper email address or a web based one? Try giving your web based email like yahoo and try opening it from there. I had the same problem with my company email so I just forwarded the email to my yahoo address and it worked well
