I am constantly thinking about how to protect my baby.

I’ve recently been very worried about her being dragged off some slippery surface by some slippery type.

I don’t have access to special cases, special feet, just an imagination, plagiarism and a ‘Blue Peter’ mentality.

For the non English reader, ‘Blue Peter’ is/was a kids program that made you believe you could make or do anything if you had enough egg boxes, used drink cans and some sticky backed plastic.

So I took an old rubber (eraser for our American friends), carefully cut little squares and stuck them on her back.

Hey presto, she sticks like glue to any surface. I also think she looks kind of better elevated off her back and when I’m fiddling with her, no chance of scratches on her back!

For you critics who say that she looks silly when not on her back, I’d say that her place in life is on her back, with her flip wide open.

I've posted some pictures of my girl:

P.S. Note my new screen protector – cost eeeerh, nearly nothing, if you’re interested see http://my-symbian.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=10477

I think it is normal to develop the baby instinck and as such you will protect your baby. :-)

Fletche, isn't the answer to simply make sure you have good insurance and regular backups? then you can enjoy life without having to worry about something as trivial as a mobile phone being lost/stolen/accidentally dropped etc etc because you will be well covered. I cannot imagine too many people wanting to do as you have done to their, er, baby!

No, no, no, no, no!

What you’re talking about ‘insurance, backups etc’ are recovery tactics.

They can never compensate you for your loss e.g. missing that really important phone call.

I’m trying to prevent my baby or me from having to go into rehab.

The analogy that comes to mind to me is our bodies. Most of us have health ‘insurance’ of some kind (state, personal….) The fact that I have this ‘insurance’ should and does not affect the way I treat my body. I work out every day, take vitamins, eat well…..

The insurance ‘attitude’ could eventually lead you to devalue everything you represent in the end. Try insuring your values, your mental health…..

Fight ‘tooth and nail’ for what you believe in, what you care for and you might be OK.

Anyway I’m looking after my baby!

Well there is a slight difference between looking after ones irreplaceable self and looking after 'things' which are replaceable. I don't have an insurance mentality, indeed I don't even insure my phones because I do look after them and if an accident does happen I simply replace it, though that is very rare. I do usually keep a spare phones just in case too.

But my point really is that I would certainly not want to stick tacky bits of rubber onto my phone and destroy the aesthetics of the overall design on the off chance that I don't take the normal care levels that I do. Of course accidents do happen and you are only protecting against one possibility.

I just think this is a step too far... and to take it to its conclusion why would you not also apply the same bit of rubber to the bottom and top and sides in case you put it down heavily, or drop it?

But if it really means that much to you then I'm not one to knock your choices!

Yes, yes, yes, yes, yes…………..yes!

You’re right I’ve destroyed the aesthetics of the phone (from her back-side perspective).

As I said before, my girl spends most of her time on her back and my rubber feet give her a stability and a feeling of assurance I didn’t have before.

I didn’t buy my P800 for her aesthetics!

P.S. I’m sharing with people, what you might choose to do if you had a similar mind set. If you don’t have a similar mind set, develop your own approach!

now why dont you try it out, its really easy. as you can see the materials, all you have to do is go to a hardware shop and look for rubber feet for glass platforms, once you have found the ruber feet you want, just get a single hole puncher to poke out little rubber feet that would suite the back of the P800 well. hope this helps, BTW the P800 still fits perfectly inside the provided case.

wierd you talk about youre phone in a creepy way it almost scared me! an i tell you it´s not easy to do that!

Posted by masseur
SnowBear, mate, I think you summed up in one line what I was thinking all day following this thread! ! !

Posted by jpaul_martinez
whats not easy to do!? all you gotta do is go to the hardware store, find the adhisive rubber feet, go to a school/office supply store and buy a single-hole puncher. punch 4 little rubber feet or however many you want, then stick it to the back of the phone. how hard can that be?

heres another pic:

Hey guys, wake up. It's JUST a phone. Nothing more, nothing less.

Posted by playa_boy
Or even get an all-risk insurance that covers anything that might happen to your phone. Usually quite cheap, at least here in Norway.

Posted by scotsboyuk
Just a phone? Just a phone? The man has gone mad, quite mad! As every P800 owner should know, your P800 is an extension of yourself. You should be damned willing to kill for it, kill for it I say!
You make me sick with your cavalier attitudes towards the P800, its people like you who shouldn't have phones, even deformed little sprogs like Nokias. I've informed social services and they will be round in the morning to take your P800 into protective care, really its the best place for it.

P.S. Quick poll, who thinks I'm getting just plain silly nowadays? Have I reached 'loopy as a basket of frogs' yet?

Here’s a holiday photo of my girl.

I know her hair looks a mess, but the salt water. What can you do?

Anyone else with pics of their girls?

Let’s keep it clean! This is not an adult forum!

this is one creepy thread it only a phone!

I used to be worried about protecting my P800, but since I got my leather Vaja i-Volution Quo case, I don't worry so much because it provides excellent protection (except for direct attacks on the screen, but I have a screen protector and I want my screen to be easily accessible).

Say what you will about the styling, they provide excellent protection. The small accents around the earpiece and speaker/camera aren't just for looks, they are actually little cushions!

That's one hideous looking knife you got there Fletche. Looks like the same one used as a Hallowen the movie prop
