How can one convert mp3 (polyphonic) ringtone to MIDI format so that one can use this tone for your phone incoming call tone? The P800 only accept WAV, MIDI, types of ringtone.
Anyone know of a program/shareware to perform this task?

I haven't done it myself but I did a search for you and there seems to be some good solutions if you read through here

It's essentially impossible to sensibly convert MP3 to MIDI. What you need to do for the P800 is to convert MIDI to RMF. This will use the built-in BAE (Beatnik Audio Engine) in the P800 to replay them with much better sound banks. Slight problem is you need to shell out hundreds of $ for a good sequencer and the commercial Beatnik editor.

I have MOTU Digital Performer linked to the Beatnik editor and can knock a few of these out if you're interested. Just open an account at aZooZa file hosting, put your MIDI file up there, then email me and I'll do a few. Or, if you don't want to open an account, use the demo account at aZooZa hosting: http://www.azooza.com, user=demo and password=demo. PLEASE do NOT email me MIDI files directly!

More on all this at http://www.beatnik.com also.

If you list the ringtones in the P800, you'll see a couple of them are .RMF format

The P800 supports 16-note polyphony .RMF files. That means it can play 16 notes simultaneously. So make sure your MIDI files have plenty of depth to them and not just a couple of instruments playing

Cheers!

use musicmatch jukebox, its free, but 5mb of p3 is about 30mb in high quality wav, but you can always use the windown sound recorder to lower the quality and sound

Hmmm. Not quite the way to do it for the P800.

Many thanks to all with your professional advices. I will leave the ringtone and stick with the installed tones. I thought P800 could use MP3 sound as ring tones, some 40 polyphonic phones can do this. I once had a Panasonic which you can record your own music/sound as special ring tone.
This has been one of the best discussion forum sites I've been to, no stupid remarks and childish behaviour.

A: You can use the voice recorder and assign the file as a ringtone.

B: Simply cut the part of the MP3 you want into a mono wav, it not like your phone is gonna ring the 4:20 that it takes to listen to your favorite NewKidsOnTheBlock.mp3

C: MP3 CANNOT be converted to MIDI, these are two distinctly diferrent types of files.

Cheers
