We talk alot on this forum in, various different threads, about what features we wish phone x had and what would be the killer app for phone y.

It has been wondered aloud whether anyone from actually considers our thoughts...

So I thought, why not have a thread in which we suggest features key to us, those that if we found in combination would make us jump up from PCs and go out and buy them!

Then, maybe with a view to composing a letter to after we have gathered sufficient ideas telling them what we, the consumers, really want and where we have generated the research from. Who knows they might just take it seriously and listen

So I'll make a start with a few things I'd want all of in a future handset:

Tri-band
Bluetooth/Wi-Fi
Biometric security
Fully customisable contacts application (like 7650, in which labels and types can be personalised ad infinitum)
status( like T68i but that is actually correct!)
SMS/MMS/ with delivery reports
Video recorder/player
MP3 (+other) audio player
Integrated flash camera w/nightvision
MS Office compatible viewer/editor
XHTML browser with improved security, capable of dealing with online banking

-------------------------------------------------------------------

These are just a few ideas I've had from various phones/PDAs and my own thoughts. Some may not be technologically possible, for those of you more techie than me, if that's the case, tell me.

Please add your own ideas and I think we may come up with a useful end product.....

actually, i think the P800 already satisfies most of my wishes.

some of your points:

biometric security - this may actually be a very nice plan indeed, using fingerprint identification on your touchscreen

secure banking - nice idea, but first a lot of networking layers need to be secured for that to be any secure.

office compatible doc viewing - sooner or later (if not already done) a P800 app supporting this will be out, i'm sure. afaik the file formats are publically available.

video recording - sounds fun. most sony digital cameras already have the option to record up to 60sec videos, might be nice if they add this feature to p800 successor too (or it may actually be possible through a firmware update? *hint hint*)

the rest of your points are already pretty much realized in p800 i think. for me, it's an ideal phone, except for the following points:

- profiles! i want to have more profiles than just 'flight mode' and normal mode...
- better quality camera, perhaps. indoor pics tend to be too dark. any sunny days cause outside pics to be too bright.

for the rest i'm very pleased, especially once i get BT working with my PC.

I am very happy with my p800 (3 months old now) BUT every phone i have i always lacks one thing, the ONE thing that would really make it for me,its not even very technical or advanced, so here it is;
A phone that can have two LIVE sims in it at the same time, without any switching, ~NOT a dual sim, NOT line two, but two seperate simcards both live on the screen. it has been done once on a crappy phone but it wasn't worth buying.

You can already view .doc and .xls, just not edit them.

There's never going to be such a thing as a "perfect phone." Afterall you're talking about millions of human beings that each ahve their own idea what would make a perfect phone.

I for example wouldn't consider a phone that includes these: Video recorder/player, MP3 (+other) audio player, Integrated flash camera w/nightvision. I don't need them and i certainly wouldn't want to pay the giant price that a phone with all this would fetch.

to me, P800 is the perfect fone for now, until I feel the demand for more exotic features

Well I'm pleased to see this is provoking some reponses....

@krazykritter, obviously the idea of the 'perfect phone' is a concept alone, as you so correctly state, we all want different things. I'm just trying to get an idea what groups of features different groups of people are looking. I am ,as it happens, looking for as many features as I can get my hands on as I always find I might not have ASKED for them but I use just about everything on my P800, for example.

Anyway, keep the ideas coming.

@Pachy - sooooo feeling that one too! I think it must be an issue with the hardware as this has long been requested by numerous people. Let's hope they find a way around it.
