Topic of this month's theme is quite simple. You need to take a shot which presents at least 2 people. Not big deal. It could be a shot of a happy couple, your family, friends, group of people etc. I hope to see your creativity and I wish you luck with capturing the 'right' moment.

Here are a few examples, captured by some of you:

Taken by jorji

Taken by Felimenta97

Taken by davidsic

Taken by etaab

Taken by Sean72

Taken by NOZ

Taken by plankgatan

Taken by tammse

Taken by cu015170

RULES

1: Pictures must be taken with a mobile phone by that member.
2: Only 1 photo with allowance for only 1 change.
3: No archive photos and photos must be taken in February 2013.
4: Post full size photo here http://www.esato.com/phonephotos/ and post a link to that photo
5: Picture post processing not allowed

Happy Hunting!

Great theme and you used one of my pics from the concert I went to

Nice theme!

Congrats, 9!

This theme should be easier than any others. It is up to us how we decide to capture them.

Put this url in your signature to promote it: People

Let's start!

Cool theme! Though choosing which photo to vote at the end of the month will be hard, I bet.

Posted by Ricky D
If I get a good day to go out I should be able to get a nice shot for this.

Nice theme.

Sorry mlife but I don’t agree with your point of view. Numbers of that bus are visible, especially when you click into the picture. I guess that people who voted on my pic had no problems with recognizing at least one of that figures. In other words I think (and not only me) that my picture meets the requirements of the competition.

When I saw theme opened by hihihans I knew that my concept will be based on LED numbers situated on the back of the buses. It wasn’t easy to capture such shot but I had a hope that it could be something far different from other entries. I’m always trying to put something called by you as 'artistic' in my pictures and I don’t want to change it.

I also guess that you are frustrated cos if not that bus your wine story would be the first and that is the main reason why you’ve put that post.

No apology necessary as everyone is entitled to their opinion/point of view. I however feel it is no different than being invited to a bike race and bring a motorcycle.... arguing that it is indeed a bike, just one with a motor.

Again, show that picture to ten strangers and ask what the theme of the photo contest was... ... A good image, YES/no doubt!!.... a good representation of the theme, not by a long shot.

"represents at least 2 people"

So, I can submit a picture of a car???? takes more than one person to build a car...
I can shoot a picture of clouds... I'm sure at least two people have looked at the clouds....
Sushi??... I'm not the only one that has ever eaten sushi...... am I?
A hand grenade.... someone throws it and I'm sure not at themselves...

how far off course should I go here to make my point and at what point do you have the right to tell me my "artistic" vision is WRONG.. If I take a picture (of ANYTHING) and someone looks at it, doesn't that image now "represent" two people, the artist and the audience.....?? hence the reason picking a theme should simply be done away with all-together or should be more strictly adhered to.

Please mlife, cool down.
you made your point and to a certain level I agree with you. However, the themes here at esato have always been a guide, not a rule. It's also up to the theme maker to let us know how tight the rules are. I wanted a number visible somewhere in the photo. I remember "fire" where a reflection was banned. The actual flames needed to be in the pic. I can also think that theme "red" wants a red subject, not the background.

for now it's"people". To many options to not participate.

Posted by tranced
@mlife: the photos posted in the last competition have one thing in common: numbers.

All those pictures have other subjects, but just a particular one. Once we're told what's the theme is about, we have to get our minds to use their creativity. In this month's, we know what should appear in the photo.

Posted by Ricky D
I understand you mlife, but I think the rule that s strictly adhered to is that the host makes the rules. Take your chance if you have a great pic that 'kind of fits', there's no harm in being told by the host 'sorry it doesn't fit the theme'.

And to be fair most months the hos is quite clear whether they want the theme to be loosely interpreted or not.

I think part of the competition is the imagination you can put to the particular theme, by removing the freedom you have a lesser competition.

My photo was the second one to be mentioned o.o

Happy about it. Anyway, let's see if I can get something. Maybe at the school corridor, with people going to classes. Dunno.

Congrats 9_Destiny for your win
A very nice theme this month. Lets wait for the creativity n the 'right' moment to click People

@ mlife - I know it seems a little unfair and annoying but thats just the competition. Winners are decided on peoples opinions which they translate through their votes. Whether the winning photo actually qualifies in your opinion or mine is irrelevant. Some people will see the pictures dont qualify and others will think they do - so they vote for them.

This is after all the internet - the home of crazy people with crazy opinions.

I voted for the winning picture for one main reason. I actually preferred your picture but i voted for the winning image simply because it was less, umm.. artificial than yours. You set up the scene which if you read back in last months competition earlier in the thread i was moaning about. But yours was the best of the set up scenes.

9_Destiny simply took my vote at the last minute from yours because he obviously waited for the bus to come along and capture the moment. I just prefer those kind of shots. I believe these competitions should be won by the person who was the lucky one to capture something on the fly or was in the right place at the right time and snapped it rather than just manufacturing the scene. But i never get my way. Look at my entry from last month..

Original

Those bins with the numbers on were lined up like that at a family members house, i noticed them and thought wouldnt it be good for the competition. I saw them and took them. Overall i wasnt happy with the picture, its a little dull and boring but hoped people might see the more abstract artisitic attempt. I did have this other entry:

Original

But decided not to use it because it was a scene i set up - therefore against my own rules, even though i thought it was the better picture.

So, either way theres not much we can do but keep playing every month. Even if i dont win, or even get any votes i like to enter even if i disagree with the winner. Which i have on many occasions.

I do agree sometimes its hard to say some entries qualify, but unless there are stricter guidelines in the months rules the poster describes then people can enter more vague entries. I understand all your points about if you showed someone the pictures and asked them the theme they couldnt guess from the winning picture, but i think its just that other elements dilute the part of the image which is relevant to the theme.

I hope it doesnt put you off entering.

It's going to be wall to wall sunshine tomorrow so I shall take my Xperia T out & go look for some people to shoot(not actually shoot people)

Posted by etaab
If you can get willing participants..

Posted by Bonovox
Hmm,yeah gotta be also careful at who you take photos of in public too

Posted by 9_Destiny
Thx 4 the congrats

I’m glad that most of you like the new theme.

@ bono – yes, I’ve used your shot because I like the atmosphere of that picture. Btw. which band received such standing ovation?

@ felimenta – as I said before it’s damn good shot. I like it very much and decided to put here as good example.

Posted by Bonovox
It was English singer Ellie Goulding. She's had 2 No.1 albums now in UK & US I was right at the front it was a fantastic night pity though I never had a better camera at the time.

love this theme

Posted by etaab
@ Sean72 - thats my main issue with this months theme. How many of us are capable of capturing an image which will have peoples permission to take ?

Isnt there a law somewhere you cannot publish peoples pictures without their consent ?

No etaab, gruop shot don’t need any permission of people being photographed, because each person are only the small part of whole image. I’ve checked the law issue. Group shot starts from 3 people. If someone of you want to capture happy couple (2 persons) then I guess that u might know them somehow, and tell them that you are taking part of monthly competition. So no worries, keep looking and keep shooting.

Posted by Bonovox
There is no specific law in UK but you cannot photograph children without permission. If your taking pics of say an area around you and people are standing around you can rightfully take the photo. You cannot ask everyone in the street to move out the way. As long as your not right in a strangers face

I think you misunderstand me... I am cool/calm... not angry at all which maybe doesn't come across well via my writing style but none-the-less "cool"... frustrated YES... but perfectly cool.

I'm wondering... Xperia V (now Xperia Z, Xperia T and ports to some other Xperia devices) have the camera effects built in (Fish Eye, Sepia, Black and White and so on). Would it be allowed to use them, (considering the effect is added when the camera takes the photo, not after) ? (I'd use Black and White or Sepia. The others wouldn't be good).

I fully understand your point... and as I have stated before I truly believe everyone is entitled to their opinion, mine just seems to be less popular or "crazy" as you say... and that's fine by me. However, and with no disrespect what you describe is more of a snapshot than a photo or "artificial" image like mine... IMO "snapshots" have no place in a photo contest and I personally will NEVER vote on a photo that appears to have no thought other than pushing a button. And let me be clear in saying that in no WAY is that directed toward 9 as it is quite apparent his photo was not without thought and an excellent image but just not a good representation of the theme IMO.... but now that I understand the OP gets the final say in what goes, it makes much more sense.

Great theme for the month however, can't wait to see all the awesome pics.

cheers!

Maybe someday that quid will be worth a fortune. That guy looks like Noel Gallegher Just kidding.

Btw. nice timing with the 2nd guy.

@ Felimenta 97 - feel free to use sepia, fish-eye, gray scale or manuall settings. As long as you won't use post-processing I'm ok with it. After post-processing by means of phone photo editor there are no EXIF data so it's easy to find out if picture was edited or not. I got proper software to find out if picture was edited somehow or not, so all of you can be sure I'll check all photos in terms of compliance with the rules

Thanks. For the feedback

Another thing. A bit silly, but anyway. A panorama can be used on the competition? I know a place I might take a huge photo.

Still might change mine yet if I get a better shot

@ Felimenta 97 - yes, you may use panorama mode

Posted by Bonovox
A panorama of people

Posted by Ricky D
Doesn't that guy live in Manchester and used to sing in a fairly famous band with his brother about a wall?

Posted by Bonovox
Haha Liam Gallagher in Oasis Wonderwall. Well Liam is now in a great band called Beady Eye

Posted by etaab
I entered a panorama in the theme moving on, back in November.

They're a little difficult to use on the forum though.

Yesterday was the first day of the new year by the Chinese lunar calendar. My wife dragged me to the Lama Temple in Beijing to pray for a baby. It gets pretty crowded there on New Year. We queued for over an hour just to get in. There are a couple of other photos uploaded to the gallery if anyone's interested.

@ Ricky D

Nice. I also went to Jiming Temple in Nanjing yesterday. I wanted to take photo there too but all I could see was smoke

Good picture.

I personally prefer this one over your current entry.
